Well through a series of circumstances, mostly my sucking at estimating how long it will take to complete a project, I got done with Part 1 ahead of my forecasted schedule.

I went for a minimalist approach. Quite apart from technical limitations I also just didn't want this to be about anything but the music. With the exception of my video introduction, this could exist as a primarily audio project (and I may even release a full length podcast on my personal channel with all the parts stitched together when I'm done, based on demand).

Anyways, let me know what you all think.

Edit: Here is the updated remix based on the corrections and suggestions.

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Part 5:

That looks good. We can post it on TLS at some point, but I think we should wait at least a few days until we've got all the initial remake hype articles out of our system. Or maybe once you've completed the series. What do you think?

Oh I definitely think we should wait before posting it publicly. I want to finish the series because I hate leaving people waiting. But ya'll on the forums get the benefit of early access.

This also allows you guys to beta the vids in case you notice any glaring errors...

Nicely done, I really enjoyed it :) I especially liked the parallel you drew between Mako Reactor and Musica Machina.
There were places here or there that I was hoping you would reference a particular detail (such as the main idea of the theory of FF7 Main Theme being Cloud's theme due to the fact that it plays when Cloud puts it all together and in Advent Children Complete when he and Marlene talk about his motivations, something about the way the Turks' Theme keeps adding pieces, the wood block in Trail of Blood), obviously the video was already long and you can't say everything.

I also ever knew that about Cinco de Chocobo. So, I'm a big a fan, I look forward to seeing/hearing the rest.

Oh, and you're hitting the rest of the Compilation too?

Well I am doing the whole compilation, so when I get to AC, I can make that reference. Thanks for the tip!

I also ever knew that about Cinco de Chocobo.

Actually, Mr. Ite offered a correction on that one, so at the beginning of the next video I am going to include that. The correction is this. Rather than a Cinco De Mayo reference, it's a reference to jazz musician Dave Brubeck and the song "Take Five".

Again... Uematsu, you cheeky bastard. Good looking out Mr. Ite!

So, I'm a big a fan, I look forward to seeing/hearing the rest.

Oh, and you're hitting the rest of the Compilation too?

Thank you very much! I love vidya music and really love to blabber about it. Want to keep it entertaining and informative!

You have a natural camera presence and a good voice for audio content.

Thor_Another.gif

My primary concern is that the volume is low, so if the base volume (or whatever the technical term is) could be higher I'd be pleased.

At the 15:56 mark you said "On That Day Seven Years Ago", when obviously you meant "On That Day Five Years Ago". I'd add an annotation in the video to address the oops.

Really impressed though with how quickly you fired up this feature. Looking forward to future videos.

- All about that base. Oh. YOU WENT THERE. YOU SO WENT THERE.

- The Main Theme is all over the map. ALL. OVER. THE MAP.

- GAME THEORY <3 <3 <3 *high five*

Lol, I missed the all over the map joke :monster:

Cool that you're doing the compilation, too. DoC's lackluster reception has kinda hidden a great soundtrack...even if it does inexplicably lack Vincent's theme.
Will you be looking at AC Complete's tracks in lieu of their original counterparts?

Thanks! I am a little bit crazy which helps too.

"Master" lol. And yeah, I was noticing that too. That's the tricky thing about editing sound when using a pair of headphones... it sounds great but it doesn't always convert to every other pair of headphones or speakers... Fortunately that's a quick tweak. I think at this rate I'll have to do a full-blown re-edit rather than just a correction but it's just as well, I want this to be top tier.

At the 15:56 mark you said "On That Day Seven Years Ago", when obviously you meant "On That Day Five Years Ago". I'd add an annotation in the video to address the oops.

Again, I'll fix this in the re-edit, and good looking out. Although, come on now... how ironic is that?

Really impressed though with how quickly you fired up this feature. Looking forward to future videos.

Well I'd done most of the planning ahead of time. I literally had pages of research just sitting on my computer waiting for me to script it out and record the damn thing, lol.

1) Yes I went there, and I really did hate myself. That "why did I write that" was off-script lol.

2) EYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Glad you caught the reference.

3) And yes, Game Theory is very possibly the best vidya show on Youtube.

Edit:

ForceStealer... I was unaware of AC: Complete's different soundtrack, so I had lined up the original soundtrack as that's the one I'm familiar with... but I have some time, perhaps I need to do some research.

Also, can anybody who has played Before Crisis recommend a few tracks. I won't go in depth but I want to at least touch on it.

ForceStealer

Double Growth
The only tracks of note that I can think of in Before Crisis is Theme of Elfe, which I'm not crazy about, but it's important. And Mission, which isn't important, but I like it:

As for Advent Children Complete, yes, not EVERY song was redone, but Beyond the Wasteland and Battle in the Forgotten City were redone to better match the action happening on screen to great effect.
Sign, Those Who Fight Further, Black Water, The Chase of Highway, and of course Advent: One-Winged Angel were extended to incorporate the new footage. The extended Sign is by far my favorite of these.
Other changes were that Anxious Heart plays when Cloud and Tifa pass out in the church instead of Water, the Main Theme plays over Cloud and Marlene's new conversation as previously mentioned, and an orchestrated Aerith's Theme plays over the phone ringing bit.

Listening the AC: Complete version of Signs right now and hell yeah I totally agree with you. Of course it has the perversion of the Main Theme and Those Chosen By The Planet, but that vocal part they added is chilling.

Edited: Updated version is up.

Don't forget that there are two Dirge of Cerberus albums: The OST album and then a downloadable album for the "Multiplayer" music, though a lot of music in the supposed Multiplayer/PlayOnline album was used for the main story.

Quoting wikipedia here.
A supplemental soundtrack was released through the Japanese iTunes service and the Square-Enix Music Download page on August 22, 2006. Titled Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Multiplayer Mode Original Sound Collections, this album consists of 27 tracks, including several songs from the single player game which were not included in the official soundtrack, as well as all of the original music composed for the multiplayer mode, and two new songs composed by Ryo Yamazaki for the North American release of the game.

Here is a YouTube playlist of said downloadable album. A few of the tracks here were only present in the PlayOnline mode, meaning that you'll never hear it when playing Dirge of Cerberus nowadays.

This video... I like it.

ANOTHER! :mjolnir:

But seriously, I love that you're dissecting and breaking down all of the tracks. Definitely going on the favorites list on youtube. I think the work you're putting into this is fricking awesome. I'm a huge music buff, particularly for scores and instrumentals, and even more particularly for FF soundtracks. I may have missed it, but do you plan on doing any other Final Fantasy's besides the Compilation in the future?

The way you all are responding to just the first part? Hell yeah I will. I know I especially want to talk about FF6, FF8 and FF9's soundtrack. But I'll probably end up doing them all sooner or later.

Forgive the double-post. Here's Part 2!

Forgive the double-post.
There's nothing in our rules about double-posting. I do it all the time. :P Especially in my own threads. If someone has something substantial to add, it's usually better that they make a new post so it shows up as unread and gets people's attention again.

Double and necro posting bans are two of the strangest rules that are just accepted across the forum world that have never made sense. One of my favorite things about TLS rules is that it's the much more reasonable "if you have something substantive to had, do whatever."

@Mr. Ite: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This has been so much fun even though it's been a lot of work. I will definitely continue this with the other games when I'm done the Compilation.

@Tetsujin: Good looking out. This is why we do this here beta.

Just got through part 2. The parallels drawn between Vincent's Theme and The Extreme and Via Purificio were pretty brilliant, I never noticed that.

And, as a little kid, I HATED You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet. I would mute the TV when I got there. I love it now of course, but I always remember how much in unsettled me as a kid.

This is just because I've listened to all these over and over and over lol!

BROTHER!!!

Edit: Wait, got ahead of myself there. The one I muted the TV for is in Part 3...

I only noticed last year or so that The Extreme from FFVIII uses The Nightmare's Beginning from FFVII. I WAS FREAKING OUT! Happy you listed that in your observations. =)

I hear that you improved the master volume a little. It will do good enough, especially given that you are probably working within some technical limitations that makes it difficult to keep up audio quality while also having a high master volume.

Had never heard before about inspiration being drawn from Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring". *fires up the Rite of Spring on YouTube* Yeah I can kind of hear it. I was more familiar with Carmina Burana - O Fortuna being an assumed inspiration. I reckon there are many classical pieces that sound like they could have inspired OWA, when they may not have been directly involved in the composing process at all.

The videos remain a pleasant watch and listen. *thumbs up*

Oh, that reminds me, Uematsu also said the beginning of OWA was basically taken from Jimi Hendrix' Purple Haze. :awesomonster:
