Dunno if VB can have this but other websites have a live chat at the bottom of the page, i was wondering if you could do this or if you would even wanna have it there?
well shoutbox is kinda like a thread.. and live chat is more like msn etc, u get an instant reply and also shoutbox posts get out of view after about 5 posts i think, whereas a live chat would kinda display posts from ages ago on the same page.
there's the shoutbox archives to check back on earlier messages. And whats the point in having a msn type thing when everyone uses MSN/AIm anyway? Ok it might be a good idea for a while but people will get bored of it quickly then it'll just be unused.
yeh but if it is unused then it dont really matter, the difference between msn etc is the fact that in msn u would have to invite everyone into the convo, which would hardly ever happen.
Well you see with a shoutbox it will stop all the spamming and going off topic in the threads maybe. As for a live chat I got no idea why it'd be any good.
whats the diff between live chat and shoutbox...infact shoutbox would be worse because the messages just stick there like glue, no matter how bad they are. at least in live chat they could dissappear after a time has passed.
what? you were moaning about how a shotbox will only display 5 or so messages then disappear and now you're saying the opposite? I don't get you, at all.

i cannot dissapear..that would be magic and i would be a millionaire.
and i'm not saying the opposite at all, the 5 messages will still be there no matter what, but they will stay they forever, untill the next person posts a bad thing.
fine, I'll spell it out for you in plain English: Because a shoutbox already does almost exactly the same thing and there are dozens of pre-existing shoutbox hacks which update once every ten seconds or something. A hack that updates in real-time is overkill. It's like killing a mosquito with a flamethrower.
