While GoW is a decent game by today's standards, back in 2006 it was truly something special.
One thing you didn't mention, Satsubutt, was the co-op experience and how the game's campaign handled it. Splitting you up in asymmetrical areas to fight on different levels of a persistent map.
There was something magical about fighting in the upper part of a factory building but being able to boomshot an exposed locust on the lower floor to ease things up for your partner down there.
It was a completely different experience to 'Here now two of you are on the level'
