Hello everyone. Just thought I'd say "hey"

Big fan off FF7. Hoping that there is going to be another game/film to the franchise but it seems highly unlikely.

Anyway would love to get to know everyone and I hope I am

Also if no one actually minds me asking I'm going to Japan in September. I wondered if anyone has been or lives there and for incredibly fussy eaters (me) is the food as bad as everyone makes out?

So I also thought is ask a FF7 question to everyone if you could be anyone from FF7 for a day who would you pick and why?

Very random but would love to see some answers...

You should make it into an actual topic, then! XD As for me I would probably choose Yuffie. Because there's no love drama in her life, she's young and pretty, cheerful, and can kick ass so that sounds like the best deal. :awesome:

I thought the food was amazing, but there are a lot of western shops, for well, westerners who don't want to step outside the box, or who have a different palette. :)

G'day, Shizuka. I hope you are welcome here too. If not, then either you're extremely evil, or members of the forum suddenly developed anti-social personality traits, which they should be locked away for. One of the two.

Welcome aboard!!

Actually I like Japanese food. If you know enough Japanese, it's all about finding out which dishes have which things. Most of them have vegetables and stuff (they TEND to eat in a kind of healthy way, at least their traditional food), but sometimes you can find odd parts of the fish being eaten. As I said, it's all about knowing what's in there.

For instance, I was VERY reluctant to trying Sashimi, since I like my meat VERY well cooked, not raw at all. And I always found raw rather disgusting, since I always compare it to biting a living cow (I know, I know, it's kind of a joke). But then I was surprised I tried it and it was great. So yes, the food is actually good :)

And in any case, you can choose to live on rice, curry, omelettes, ... they do these stuff anyway, and you'll be more used to them anyway.

Welcome :D

RE: Japanese food, it isn't really that bad. There are a few oddities, like sea urchin, but thats not everyday food. Most of it seems to be rice and noodle based. And remember that sushi isn't raw fish like many people think, thats sashimi.

I'd consider myself quite a squeamish person, like I won't eat pork chops or any meat thats on the bone, hate anything fatty or with gristle or 'flobby bits' but I didn't mind sashimi at all. I wouldn't say its my favourite, but texture wise its not much different from smoked salmon.

Anyway, aside from the noodles and rice anything tempura is delicious, Teryaki sauce is yummy too. I'd eat japanese food all the time if I could afford it - its tasty and healthy. The only thing they can't seem to get right is desserts :/

I'm hungry now....

Hi everyone thank you very much for your replies. Especially about the food. I'm not a great fan of meat so can't see me liking raw meat.

But I will give it a go no harm in trying! (Unless I get food poisoning of course!) :P

Hi and welcome.
I visited Japan for two weeks a couple of years ago, so my experience is minimal, but I really thought the food was amazing, so healthy and delicious. There's an abundance of western food (we had cream cheese and strawberry sandwiches every morning for breakfast) and there's Starbucks, hamburgers, pizza - though you might want to give the octopus and seaweed pizza a miss, unless you like seaweed, which I do. I did draw the line at the seaweed donut, though. It was the only thing I ate which I really couldn't stomach. You can also get all kinds of very healthy takeaway meals at the convenience stores, which are everywhere in the cities.

I have to disagree with Octo about the desserts. Red bean paste buns are my all time favourite, and green tea ice cream is fabulous too.

Hi thank you LicoriceAllsorts :-)

No I really don't like seaweed and octopus. The main thing that has put me off about food in Japan is because last year I went to China and believe me beautiful country but the food...well not my cup of tea.

But I do like the sound of the healthy eating foods. I can't wait to go I'm going go to Tokyo so if anyone can recommend anything to do there what basically I shouldn't miss would be highly grateful :)

During my trip to Japan, someone joined us halfway through after having been in China, and she would agree with you: apparently the food in mainland China is pretty bad. I gather Hong Kong had some good eating. All I can say is that, by contrast with China, she thought she'd died and gone to food heaven when she arrived in Japan.

Thank you again LicoriceAllsorts. I lost loads of weight during my trip to China. The food was terrible. Anything that literally moves there they literally eat. Really oh good you have made me feel a lot better thank you:D
