Aaron's hax/template change log

I will be using this thrad to chronicle changes I've made to the board as I make them. First up is that threads in the forum and search listing should now display the date and time they were started next to the name of the person who made them. I have also edited the threadbit template to use a regular hyperlink for the thread starter's name so you can open the thread starter's profile in a new window/tab.

I'm sure I'll have a bunch more stuff to chronicle soon, but how much and when depends on how soon I get ftp access etc.

Let me tell you something about Username. We were best friends in middle school. I know, right? It's so embarrassing. I don't even... Whatever. So then in eighth grade, I started going out with my first girlfriend Audi who was totally gorgeous but then she moved to California, and Username was like, weirdly jealous of her. Like, if I would blow him off to hang out with Audi, he'd be like, "Why didn't you call me back?" And I'd be like, "Why are you so obsessed with me?" So then, for my birthday party, which was an all-boys pool party, I was like, "Username, I can't invite you, because I think you're gay." I mean I couldn't have a homosexual at my party. There were gonna be boys there in their *bathing suits*. I mean, right? He was a HOMOSEXUAL. So then his mom called my mom and started yelling at her, it was so retarded. And then he dropped out of school because no one would talk to him, and he came back in the fall for high school, all of his hair was cut off and he was totally weird, and now I guess he's on crack.

Apparently some people were having trouble viewing the Mobile skin on their cellphones, so there is now a Mobile Narrow skin. Let me know if this is too wide; if so, I can make additional variants.

I thought the mobile skin was already narrow? Will have to check it out when I'm browsing on my phone next.

The normal Mobile skin stretches to whatever the screen width is normally. Some phones apparently don't handle this well and make all the text ridiculously small.

Do we need the time stamp along with the date? The main reason I ask, is that now we've got a lot of thread information below the title that ends up being longer than the thread title itself, which looks a little odd imo.

Maybe not. It also does end up being more detailed than the information usually available on poasts made in the last month. But rly I should try to find a way to make that information more detailed rather than just changing the way thrad creation information displays.

Personally, I think adding more stuff to an already crowded user interface makes it more crowded. I'd prefer if changes like these were made in a separate substyle, or at least put in there pending review and approval for adding to the main style.

Also, I'd get rid of the whole forum software and build something that works, but that's just me .

I just thought it was a nice thing to have on display. Plus it could help staff identify zombie threads. I could just make it an option in the user profile as to whether to view it. I'm planning to add a bunch of other viewing options as well so it won't be that big a deal

I agree with Quex on this. But, I'm just being myself. It is useful for dead threads though. Good going, Aaron.

Having it as a toggleable option is going to be great justice. Thanks for all the work so far, and it's only day 2 of you having teh powahz.

Showthread should now redirect to the correct post when you select a specific post to view in all threads. I know for a fact that the "What makes your day," "Things that piss you off," first LTD, and other threads had been redirecting to the wrong pages for a long time. It was occurring because somebody altered the Tachy Goes to Coventry values and did not immediately rebuild thread information afterwards.

edit: This does not seem to have the intended effect in the Things that piss you off thread. That's incredibly annoying. I am going to have to look into what else might be causing this.

edit 2: this seems to be a major issue with vBulletin; I will have to look into it later. Perhaps we just need to stop using Tachy Goes to Coventry.

Or we demand vB fix their shit, . It seemed like an odd hack anyways - years ago, when I went through vB's source code, I saw bits of 'yeh this is for tachy lol' scattered around everywhere.

I got sick of edit messages appearing on poasts I edited two minutes after I made them, so you now have five minutes to edit your poasts before the edit message shows up.
