Seriously, Aerith is the image of the Planet, she symbolizes the ancient (c wat i did thar) goddess of fertility that existed in many ancient religions, since it's from Earth that life comes.

What? Haven't you ever heard of Earth as a "she", a goddess/symbol of fertility? She makes life grow out of "her" and "she" feeds and heals everything. It's a way overused concept, even today.

Aerith has ties to this image, but only as her function as a Cetra, you know "hear the planet/earth", "communicate with it"... even her name comes from "Earth".

She may give messages to the heroes at various points in the compilation, but she very clearly does not ever come back to the Planet in corporeal form. That alone indicates to me that if Squenix were intending to portray any messianic archetypes with her character, they did not work terribly hard at doing so. Or, more likely, they simply intended her character to subvert messianic archetypes.

Sephiroth is actually the Jesus analog in FFVII. There's his name (the path to/emanations of God). "Child" of JENOVA, born from the essence of this "New God" being put into a mortal woman's womb. "Advent Children" for God's sake. =P

It's a valid-ish point, but Aerith lacks most of the OTHER general traits of a general Jesus allegory, like intending to die, being a bit detached or deliberately otherworldly. Aerith is extremely 'of the world' instead of concerned with the other.

Sephiroth is much more in line with a subverted Jesus allegory than Aerith.

Nanaki is a Jesus Allegory Allegory. Or not. Depends on how much of the mythic allegory you think was intended in SW.

Ha-ha sorry I already have a Zack, my fic is definitely unique but I'm not sure if you'd want to hear it.


See the way I see it, I'll be trying to explain the Cetra's origins in my fic as in they being the Planet's protectors have a duty to maintain peace and harmony on the planet. In my fic the purpose of The Ancients is that they appear whenever there is human pain and suffering and they hope to absolve that pain and suffering and lead the people to "The Promised Land'' free of human suffering and pain. That is how the Ancients protect the planet, since human's selfish desires and emotions are corrupting the planet, the ancients are the planet and humanity's protectors and they have that duty to fulfill.

So in that sense yeah Aeris will be kind of a "Jesus" figure. Also the whole getting killed part will be a way of Aeris sacrificing herself for Humantiy's wellfare, but she also gets killed because of humanity's sins and corruptness, which will be manifested through Sephiroth.

Meh, seriously now, if you have an idea, just go for it it can't be worse than Dirge of Cerberus, it's always interesting to see good re-imaginations of already existing stories, specially when the ideas behind said re-imaginations are based on real life issues. Believe us, there are far, far worse things out there.
