Or at least a holy man who baptizes.
Seriously, Aerith is the image of the Planet, she symbolizes the ancient (c wat i did thar) goddess of fertility that existed in many ancient religions, since it's from Earth that life comes.
lol what the fuck
lol what the fuck
HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE THANKS
but its a life of brian refBecause this thread is fucking ridiculous and most of this forum is staying the hell away from it.
One of the most important characteristics of a Jesus figure is absent from Aerith's character. She does not resurrect. Once she dies, she stays dead. She may give messages to the heroes at various points in the compilation, but she very clearly does not ever come back to the Planet in corporeal form. That alone indicates to me that if Squenix were intending to portray any messianic archetypes with her character, they did not work terribly hard at doing so. Or, more likely, they simply intended her character to subvert messianic archetypes.

That's like saying Toki from Hokuto no Ken isn't based on Jesus for the exact same reason:
What? Haven't you ever heard of Earth as a "she", a goddess/symbol of fertility? She makes life grow out of "her" and "she" feeds and heals everything. It's a way overused concept, even today.
Aerith has ties to this image, but only as her function as a Cetra, you know "hear the planet/earth", "communicate with it"... even her name comes from "Earth".
What's so bizarre about it?
Beyond the bull minimosey said, that it.
Depends, what would you be in it though lolCan I be in your story?
Can I be Zack? He's awesome
actually I say if you have a story idea, write it. Go for it. A good writer can make even the worst idea into a good one. Besides you asked us if Aerith WAS a Jesus figure, to which we were all like "uh.. no what?"... because she's not. Doesn't mean you can't make her one.
You should see some of the crazy shit I've put into my storyCloud X grown-up Marlene for example
