Oh it's really beautiful. I practically grew up on Alice in Wonderland, it was one of the first chapter books I received from one of my mom's friends (he was a teacher). Due to the surreal freakish nature of the book (including the imagery), it used to frighten me, but as I became older I started to appreciate the connections to certain themes: Chess, for TtLG (Though the Looking Glass) and Cards for the aforementioned book.
Aaaaanyway, Depp scared me at first but I'm learning to appreciate the crazy makeup. I actually think Heather Bonham Carter looks pretty good at the Red Queen--completely accurate to the book? No, definitely not, but she still manages to fit in with the freakishly creepy and surreal look of the other characters.
That's what counts. Alice looks like well . . . Alice, not much to her really.
Anne Hathaway looks perfect as the White Queen, I think she'll do that character's cute and yet psychotic persona justice.
Um Tweedledum and Tweedledee scare the crap out of me. It's like their heads are just out of place somehow like they're to large for their bodies or something. Everything else looks great.
