Although Belichick was probably with the Giants at the time, it is worth noting that one of the first times the Patriots cheated, or at the very least were accused of such, was when they had a guy on work release drive a snowplow on the field to clear a spot for their kicker in the 4th quarter of a then-scoreless game in the snow against the Dolphins. The subsequent field goal was good, and the Patriots won 3-0. Shula was so furious at this turn of events that during the ensuing off-season, in his capacity as a member of the Competition Committee, he made a rule change that banned the use of a foreign object to clear a spot for a field goal attempt (only the players' own hands and feet are allowed to be used).
