…Hoo boy. Who thought it would come to this…?

On Thursday evening while I was posting, there was a brief power shortage in the village where I live. When the power came back on, I turned the computer back on to continue posting (small power outages happen occasionally, and, while disruptive and annoying, have little negative effect on the computer).

However, the computer wouldn’t recognise the modem. When I left home this morning, we had managed to get it to the stage where it did recognise the modem, but the dial-up program wouldn’t connect to the internet.

Due to the rurality of the area, the majority of our grocery shopping is done over the internet, so getting back online is a major priority.

But still…

Until it is back online, I’m restricted to getting onto the forums once a week when I can get on the public access computers on a Saturday.

So, yeah. Hopefully this thread is just me overreacting, but in case it isn’t, I’ll be seeing you all once a week for the time being.

Still... Brooke will probably be glad of the break of me bothering her Pokemon trainer thread...

The replacement modem I got last weekend was only half the battle! We also need a replacement cable to connect the modem to the landline (after trying the new modem, my mum and her her partner thought to check the wiring... it was frayed. But the old modem was pretty knackered, too). But I now have the replacement cable!

I recommend buying spares just to prepare for the next time it happens. Hope it all works out.
