Anyone else miffed at the supreme lack of games this year?

Sony's gotta reduce their prices posthaste.
Weren't some companies threatening not to make stuff for the PS3 until they do? They also need to fix their systems that break all the time and their crappy warranty. I mean seriously, when you make a product with 8k burn hours and then expect people to pay $180 + shipping to get what first cost them $400+ to work again, there's something terribly wrong.

At the end of the day if they don't have a working system anymore they aren't buying more games.

To be honest though, working at a video game store I sure haven't noticed a lack in new stuff. People are constantly asking for new things I haven't even heard of.

Stuff I've been happy about this year: Ghostbusters, Wolverine, Wii Sports Resort, Turtles in Time

Stuff I'm looking forward to: L4D2, ODST, Wolfenstein, Scribblenauts, Batman

You sure you aren't talking about 360 there?

That was just Activision, and frankly, they're full of it. They're just trying to throw their weight around now that they've replaced EA. Even if it costs them more to port a game over, Modern Warfare and Guitar Hero and such still sell more on PS3 than they'd be willing to give up.
ALSO, the only real reason they want it to be cheaper is so they can continue charging out the ass for their stupid peripherals or just games in general (isn't MW2 in the UK coming to almost $100?)

I'm all for Sony lowering their price and all, but Activision's full of shit. And frankly, I don't play CoD or any of the music games so I really wouldn't miss them anyway.

Activision was just bullshitting.

Also, PS3 hardware doesn't break very often, and the warranty holds up very well. I have no idea where that comes from.

It comes from working at a store that repairs systems.

EDIT: Meh, edited out my rant. Let's just say I see a lot of them in for repair, and the amount of people complaining about their warranty service amazes me.

Some of the minigames in Wii Sports Resort are absolutely balls-on-the-walls retarded.

ESPECIALLY cycling. No idea what the morons were thinking at the time.

I'm looking forward to Halo: Reach rather than ODST. It'll be nice to play a prequel, although to be honest the novels pretty much explain everything anyway.

Yeah well, I had a ps3 for years before it broke, which was partly my fault tbh.

You work at repair shop, you're bound to see a lot of people complaining about their broken junk. Warranty is fine, as long as you're still in warranty, you get it shipped and repaired for free. Works for me. You can also get a new warranty for a small fee.

Oh ya, I know I'd be getting the complaints since I'm off warranty and you only come to me to fix stuff if you can't through Sony. Some people even come anyways because they don't want to pay the one-way shipping. I am just not impressed with a lot of stuff Sony's done with the PS3. I used to want one but after working at this store... it's made me very worried about investing in one.

Fanboy hearsay ain't a good source of info.

A lot of the same cunts are the ones that would have you think that 360s break every which way.

Compared to the last 5 or so years, this year has seen very little in high hitting titles.
In the last 4 months ive seen little to no new releases at all other than shitty DS titles and the occasional good games such as prototype and infamous.

If it werent for the likes of
Batman Arkham Asylum
Modern Warfare 2
and
Assassins Creed 2

This year would be going down as one of the biggest dissapointments in gaming history.
UK games retail magaine MCV has been trying its best to urge production companies to bring more games out as opposed to stock piling them until popularity grows.

All in all does anyone else feel like its been a shit year?

Yeah, but I don't have much money to invest into games atm so it balances out for me. 2010 will be fantastic though and I hope by then I will have some cash to spare for God of War III, Mass Effect II, FFXIII, etc.

When I say I'm not impressed, I mean from what I see, opening the consoles, seeing how they work, all the revisions, PS2 chips frying, yellow lights, etc.

Oh, they break a lot too, but the difference is it's not too hard to fix (and I don't mean towel trick crap, I mean actual fix), and that they extended their warranty for three years. I'd just really like to see Sony do that at least if nothing else for their 8k lasers.

Sounds like you've more or less settled your mindset on that already.

All I can say is, from owning both a 360 and PS3, both are more than worth the money and good for what you pay. If you look after them they shouldn't be too much trouble to you.

As far as the warranty thing goes, Microsoft extended theirs because at the time a shitload of 360s(more than likely from user irresponsibility) were frying, so they needed some kind of insurance to placate consumers.

If something similar were to happen to the PS3, then maybe, but then again I'm not sure they're able to do so yet. Then again PS3 production cost has gone down drastically compared to past years.

The moral of this story, clearly don't buy a PS3 in Canada. But in the real world the ones with problems are in the minority.

Work discount of 25 percent is coming in handy.

Student discounts are also made of win.

What decent, well publicised games actually come out this year? Basically Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern Warfare. I'm thinking Arkham Asylum probably won't have mass appeal, so I'm not including that one. But there are a few others that look promising, like Alan Wake and the Wolfenstein remake.

But even those that have already come out weren't all they were hyped up to be. Game in point - Prototype OMG, it's so repetivite and you just want to hurl your controller out of a window after playing it for 3 hours. Resident Evil 5, which took the horror factor of the series and stamped it into the ground, basically turning the game into a testosterone action hero rampage. I just think I have game rage, and nothing pleases me AT ALL.

But still, 2010 is where it's at. FF13, Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Mass Effect 2 ofc. (Still not completed the first :/)

It's pretty pointless to even mention the PS3, so many more developers are going across to Microsoft.

I'm simply basing it on what I know, and what I have to know to do my job properly. I don't look up people complaining about PS3s online, I see them handed to me asking me to fix them.

All I want is to see an extended warranty on old lasers and old revisions of the board that yellow light often.

Much prefer MGS Peace Walker, IMO, when that gets released later on. Until someone links me to gameplay footage I'll have this inherent fear that Rising will turn into spectacle gameplay rather than any sort of required stealth.

I wouldn't say mentioning the PS3 is pointless, but I'd say Microsoft got a while lot more from their announcements this year compared to the other two main console companies. I think that Nintendo got the shortest end of the stick this year, really - All that's really worth mentioning for the future is a small smattering of core franchise titles and an additional repetoire of "non-games" (in the loose sense of the phrase if anyone wishes to protest :monster:) punctuated by the occasional cool third-party Capcom title or Suda51 announcement.

You know what? I'm actually not terribly upset by the fact that there are apparently not very many games coming out. I've always been a picky gamer, but this time around - after watching the E3 conferences - I found myself wanting to play more games. In a way, it's a good thing for me. There are about 3 that I can name off the top of my head that I want to play. That's quite steep for me.

Well i work for the uks biggest game retailer and at least once a month have to have meetings with the sony and microsoft reps about hardware changes and such and i can safely say that the 360 is still in the 60% error percentile where as sony still has less than a 5% percentile margin of error on all their consoles. The greatest error rates on ps3s seem to be from virus related issues on the internet explorer or overheating issues to which sony already addresses on their site and warranty. All in all the ps3 is still a far better put together console.

Uh, no. Not at all. The recent trend is to develop for both consoles simultaneously with a few studios making exclusives for both consoles. People's aren't jumping ship on the PS3 for Microsoft. A few new exclusives get announced for both every now(hell rockstar games recently announced a PS3 exclusive at E3.) and then but the cost of current gen development is just too much for a few third party publishers to handle.

I stopped giving a shit about MGS after 4. Peace Walker comes out in 2010, but Rising is unlikely to come out until 2011/12 anyway.

I'm looking forward to playing Peace Walker in the way I'd look forward to eating a chocolate cookie after eating the chocolate cake and the slightly-less-chocolate-and-a-little-more-turd cake that was MGS3 and 4 respectively.

Not the greatest release ever anticipated, but still looking highly respectable on prequel terms.
