What's the max size for avatars? I have one I want to use but... I guess it's 300k... yeah that IS a little big, but how much do I have to reduce it?

oh I missed that... well I don't think there's any way I can have this avatar then XD I can't make it that small.

300k is ridiculous, imo . It's more than all of the text on any page around here (including HTML and all).

I could try to get it smaller, if you want.

If you really wish to use it, you should try not using "Dithering" while creating it. Also cut off Interlacing, that can increase the "size" of the gif.

You could also use this site to resize the gif, or on GIMP to compress and reduce the size. OR, download Irfanview for free and try to use it

I do use Gimp, I'm just not used to it
I don't know how to make an animated gif smaller with it. But Fairheartstrife resized it for me

For anyone else with the same issue, I found this site helpful:

Upload the file and you can "clean up", i.e. I guess it takes out excess frames and interlacing for you, or manually enter the dimensions you wish to shrink or enlarge the gif to.

Incidentally, the forum rules state that avatars that are "too large" will be deleted. Does that mean the default maximum size of 150 x 300 pixels may be too large?

I'm worried my current one's too big; let me know if it is, please, and I'll resize it right away.

EDIT: Nm, I'll resize anyway.

Good question. We probably should set it to the width of the postbit, so it doesn't stretch. I quite like how longer avatars look though.
