Well, they're going to have to tone down some things I guess. It's really stupid. I don't understand how any of these things is dangerous to the youth of the country. Is it the end of anime and whatnot? I doubt it, but if they can't show "virtual crime", that includes a lot of things. Plus, how do you create villians that can't commit crime? Although it seems the bill (either that or the article) is waffley on what is acceptable and not. Unless I missed something.
Well the way it has been worded suggests to me that they're talking about sexual stuff. Japan has always had a pretty weird attitude to censorship, they can depict stomach churning stuff just as long as the end of a cock is pixelated - cos thats
really naughty!
This just seems like locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. Also, if its a Tokyo based thing how would they enforce it on the internet? I find it hard to believe that many people are still buying printed hentai over there, why would they? When you can just download it and spare yourself dirty looks from a shopkeeper?
Its almost as if they have only just cottoned on to the fact that the rest of the world thinks theyre massive schoogirl knicker smelling perverts, and now theyre attempting to do something about it
Again its a censorship thing. It mentions that stuff that doesnt comply with this law will be 'banned from general sales' not banned outright. So certain stuff with be 18+ or whatever. I have got the impression from friends who have visited Japan that getting your hands on hentai is pretty easy, its not confined to sex shops. Basically this law sounds like an attempt to stop underage kids/youth seeing the stuff (which with the internet and all, is pretty impossible)
The vagueness of the wording is worrying though because sticking 'etc' on the end of a clause could literally mean
anything. So maybe it could be the beginning of a crack down on the more violent and mature manga and anime in general.
