On the one side, you create the worst imaginable forms of pornography, in the vast majority of cases containing rape or at least not-very-consentual sex, sex addiction, underaged sex (also called pedophilia), tentacle rape, and worse.

On the other side, you pixelate it because it's genitals. Gasp.

Then bills get passed that forbid schools and school outfits from being drawn in cartoons or something.

Or wait, that prohibit said tentacle rape and gazillions of gallons of blood and guts from being sold to kids. Right? I don't get it really, bad articles on the matter and stuff .

Lots of conflicting accounts of what the hell is exactly going down and nobody seems to address what the other guys are saying when they write an article that's supposedly "clearing up the misconceptions." So, really, all I've taken from all this is that policymakers -- and possibly anime/manga and video game publishers as well -- in Japan are being fucking retarded, and that's not exactly breaking news.

I talked about this with a friend who lives in Japan (and has been doing so for years now). He said we're all blowing things out of proportions.

Basically, this is aimed at BL/yuri/loli/rape stuff, and if the law effectively passed, there are going to be more talks about it. It's supposed to be redy for April, but until then, it's going to change a lot still.

He said that for normal mangas, smut, and those which goal isn't just sex, it's going to be just fine.

Now he may be wrong, but I guess that living there, it's easier to read the mood than just watching stuff from afar _o/ As he said, the law is going to change a lot because they're going to put restrictions on it, etc.

While "well that doesn't leave very many" is the easy joke to make, the fact that the law says things like "etc." and anything harmful to development or whatever means it could very well be the case.

But I can't say I know much about the way Japanese laws works, maybe that's normal.

Well, sorry to have friends in Japan. Next time I'll try with French friends, since I'm French, I guess I'm not allowed to have friends all around the world?

I just said that's his stance on it, and he's interested in it too, 'cause he does follow anime/manga. I'm not saying he's right or whatever, but he didn't seem very bothered by it either. He's also kinda freaked out over old otaku jerking off loli _o/ So he thinks that's a good thing

I told him that my main problem was with the vagueness of the law (the etc tidbit), and that's when he said that the law was going to be revised and they were going to be a lot more restrictive anyway. There was amendment voted in that way. The law, if it applies in April, is going to be different from what it is right now.

I'm just saying other point of views, because everyone is kinda alarmist when this law IS going to change. And I'm pretty sure that the manga/anime lobby is going to push hard on this one too.

Honestly, I've seen way worst news in terms of laws lately in France, and I don't think Japan's going to shoot themselve in the foot either, so they're going to be careful about that (or maybe both my bloodlines are messed up and doomed to adopt stupid laws, I don't know, we'll see ).

Actually I don't have any beef either. I've been low on food and money because of unexpected bills this week and it really sucks.

I guess as far as the topic is concerned, I'm just going to throw it out there that I really don't know what the fuck is going on in the face of what seems to be a lot of confusion and conflicting information. My intuition however tells me that most of what our demographic is into (vid games from Japan, manga, anime, stylistics, etc) won't be adversely affected. Can't say anything for sure, though.

Well, I liked this post because I really get tired of people (not saying that was anyone's intention here) that say "Well, my friend in Japan blah blah blah". It mostly happens with translations I've noticed. Like, "My friend in Japan says the wording is wrong, it should be like this" and the other person will respond "Well I emailed someone from Japan and... [insert different meaning of the translation here]".

I think from any language/translation or event, it's most understood by the people that live there, not just by one person. And even if you live there, you may not even understand it, so... XD
