New thread just because old threads are so old.

This is the creature/character who was the inspiration for Barthandelus of Final Fantasy XIII.

From the book Simplicius Simplicissimus, which interestingly has a subtitle of The life of an odd vagrant named Melchior Sternfels von Fuchshaim: namely where and in what manner he came into this world, what he saw, learned, experienced, and endured therein; also why he again left it of his own free will.

I like the ending (the colored part) of that subtitle, because it makes me think of fal'Cie Barthandelus.

I forgot to add that this character (Balanders in the 17th century book) is based off the god Proteus. I feel a possible connection with Orphan is hidden, because a meaning of the creature's name is The Soon-Another. Orphan is a fal'Cie (at least in English) that was never truly born.

Barthandelus's name and design are a reference to the FFV monster, Baldanders.

The FFV monster, of course, is a reference to the mythological Baldanders mentioned in this thread. And no doubt, the FFXIII creators had the mythology as well as the nod to FFV in mind when they designed Barty.

Wow. I have yet to play V, so I didn't know. Looks like Orphan's wheel form was based on them too. As well as perhaps other symbologies/mythology. Thanks.
