Anyone still playing?

Thoughts on the Donya fortress teaser trailer? I liked the guns, am kind of liking the map as it seems non linear and there might be some decent flank routes (unlike operation metro/meat grinder).

Still cant wait for Armored Kill though, a true BF DLC with new vehicles? Heck yes.
Ill still buy Close quarters though, even though its just a Frostbite 2.0 tech demo.

Yeah I was going to upgrade my PC so i could make the leap to playing BF3 on pc, but im waiting till CQ comes out in case the specs are a bit higher because of it (especially since i need enough extra juice to run fraps at the same time, and possibly convert vids in between matches :monster: )

Sometimes I wish BF3 wasnt on console, so that DICE could have added all the destructability into the game that they really wanted. The games so gimped because of PS3 and 360 =/

Really wish I had it for PC but I have to settle for 360 because all my RL friends don't have a PC that can run it. Still can't wait for CQ mainly because of the SPAS 12. I love my shotguns. :monster:

I probably would've got it on ps3 but I only have 2 friends who play it on there. Where as on xbox I have like 10+ so yeah. :(

Dude I desperately wish I could get an I7, hell even an I5 processor and a new motherboard. That's all I really need for my pc to start cracking out proper frames for the real intense shootouts.

I dunno if I'd say gimped, but yeah there's some features I'd see them including had they not opted for multiplatform development. What can you do, it's a consequence of development costs this generation that folks need their games on as many platforms as possible to try and generate higher revenue.

What really boggles my mind is how there not using the PC version as a development platform. Theres zero reason why the Dart glitch should still be persistent on the PC, I get why its still on console, due to certification process for Sony and Microsoft costing 40k each its only logical they'll lump all there bug fixes into one bag for those 2.

I just dont get why PC players get lumped in with the console versions short-comings too.
Dice used to be better then that :monster:

I just feel like the larger maps should be a bit more destructible like in BC2 you could break anything. You could even chop trees down with your knife. I know FB2.0 is alot stronger then whats shown at the moment, and im sure the smaller maps present in Close Quarters are going to be the stage that Dice decides to show what its capable of.

Two days until Close Quarters DLC gets released, as well as Battlefield premium.

Premiums price tag is 50$, but theres a rumor circulating that its 35$ for B2K owners. Any of you guys planning on getting either of these? If the 35$ rumor is true then Ill most likely just buy premium.

If its 50$ I cant budget it in till later :<
None the less im getting CQ DLC, Mostly for the guns and assignments but I have hope that DICE doesnt let us down and atleast made these smaller maps decent.

Well see.

I will probably persuade my uncle to get me this along with some more xbl time because the new guns are fucking awesome. Also I like the looks of the new maps from the gameplay trailers i've seen. Sort of gives me a rainbow six vegas 2 vibe and the mp for that was pretty awesome. Also either way premium sounds like a good deal for $50 since you get all the DLC plus those extra features and what not. Pretty sure it would work out cheaper to get the premium than buy all DLC individually.

Yeah definitely would be cheaper considering theres like 4 more planned DLC (Armored Kill, CQ, Endgame, and a recently leaked After Math).
So that alone is 60$.

The other stuff is kinda... meh. Different font colors on battlelog? lol.

oh I thought there would be things like different kits and the like. Really need a more boss looking green camo kit than Veteran. And oh another DLC too? That's awesome. :>

Iirc there is some custom camo options, black dog tags, and a new knife as well.
Its a pretty neat package but theres some things that just seem rather meh, like font options on battle log. And some are kind of dick'ish like getting server queue priority.

I fail at budgeting for and cant get premium till after CQ is officially released(for ps3) next week lol.
A friend got it though, new knife looks like a box cutter on steroids. We werent able to hop onto the new maps the game would time out or freeze up :<

Anywho new screen caps for Armored Kill from E3, not sure which platform but my first guess is PC.

looks boss, I guess that's the 'biggest map evar' and yeah that would be PC version. No way they're going to give us an 8 flag map on console as much as i'd like them to. :(

ehh.
Its a catch 22, as much as I'd love to kill people at some of the lesser used portions of the map (like the extra flag areas at Kharg for example), I know if we were given the extra flags it wouldnt be used as much, leaving most flags ignored for most of the match.

24 players just arent enough for Battlefields large conquest maps.

64 players aren't even enough on Battlefield's current largest maps; in my experience (and this was from a few months ago btw), there's fighting over / between two points, and the battles seem to go 'round in circles. But then, I haven't seen any actually organized battles :monster:. Ideally, there's a squad assigned to every control point (or two), attacking and defending (= concentrating) on those two, instead of - what seems to be happening most of the time - every man for himself and doing whatever the fuck they want.

With that in mind, I liked BF2's idea of a commander that assigned squads to control points. Nothing obligatory, just that the squads get extra points for 'following orders'. I think that has potential, if developed further.

Console can be like that too, sometimes its really good and everyone on the team is playing smart/actually communicating. Other times you get players who sit in a corner for the whole match

Matches on caspian border and similar maps sometimes have a tendency to play like hide and go seek, or follow the leader. Enemy team caps Alpha, We cap it back while they cap Bravo, so on and so forth. On servers like that its usually best to leave and find another one xD

I feel like Rush is perfect on console though, I had a chance to play it on PC at a friends house and it just felt like to much. It was just crazy xD

Also Loving the chopper in the second screen cap, I barely noticed it but it seems to be a Transport chopper (like the kasatka) with side panel turrets like a little bird or something. Looks pretty neat :3

As only PS3 premium players can get it for now, thought I would give everyone else a bit of a heads up on what to expect.
This is all just opinion and i'm not going in depth as it's still BF3 after all.

Operation 925

This is an office block. Modern open plan, very destructable environments (not totally by any means though). Lots of plasterboard etc.
Masses of rooms and corridors. Easily big enough for 24 players imo.
I like this map, lots of destructable cover to make things iinteresting but masses of corridors and rooms to make an escape if you need to. The size of the map stops you getting shot in the back all the time and big enough to have to search for enemies from time to time.

Scrapmetal

An Industrial area with connecting warehouses with the battle fought high up so no ground and a drop to death between the two buildings. Cover is largely solid and can stop bullets. Often this is the two sides fighting each other over the no mans land drop. There are so many ways across the two buildings though that flanking isnt a problem. A nice touch is the machinery when hit by bullets will trigger the robotic mechanism. Possibly my fav map.

Donya Fortress

A cartell style villa. Masses of rooms and corridors again, with a mix of destructable and solid cover. Another good level my 2nd fav i think. Has a central courtyard with foliage and the battle is fought in the building mainly. Again the amount of routes make this more than capable of 24 players imo.

Ziba Tower

My least fav map and feels the smallest. Top of a hotel in the sky. Kind of horseshoe shaped level with the central bit being a courtyard of death. Has a very nasty camping spot in the middle of the map that can deal death to a wide area. If a few guys camp up there they can be hard to shift as they can see you before you see them (bad design). Because of their location though a coordinated effort would soon clear them with tubes and rpg's but that didn't happen with randoms. This is the shotty fest that I though the whole pack would be. Still haven't found it too annoying yet though.

Game modes

I think in general the game modes work quite well. You score more points and cap bases quicker so you will rank up quicker but when you are getting 230k points for the next level its not like you are going to suddenly fly up the rankings. The tdm modes seem to work better on these maps than the others and the random spawn is often the safest option rather than the random death it often was. Spawning on your team mates in a firefight in these maps is very dangerous.
I really dislike the 'gun game' mode. You can join a game and have a MP443 against guys running round with shotties and p90's. Not fun. Needs a srs tweek that I doubt it will get.

Weapons

Only used the L86 and I <3 it

Overall this is not the shitfest I feared it would be. Shotties and Lmg's are def very powerful but I did fine with everything except snipers. Ziba Tower I def did better with the DAO but the other maps I did better with the M27 or 16A3.
As for any comparison with cod, well it's more like cod than the other maps but i'm sorry cod wishes it was like this. If cod was like this I would play it more.
For those that say this isn't Battlefield I disagree. This is Battlefield, just with a new twist. If you don't move forward you die in this industry and I think this is just what BF3 needs. They could have done a different style of CQ map pack but they didn't and I am more than happy with the results. If you don't want to BF to move with the times, then to me you're a dinosaur. Yes it needs to keep its roots in the big arenas and vehicles and it still needs to be weighted more that way too. It also needs this though. Short intense gunfights in atmospheric destructible environments. Yes please.
This isn't without faults and it's still early days but imo. So far so good. Can't wait to get home from work to carry on.

This is a review by my friend skuh, I actually bought Premium after all and got to play the levels quite a bit and his thoughts echo my own fairly closely so I thought I may as well copy and paste his review.
The maps are really really fun.

Do any of you happen to know the bandwidth usage of BF3? I was searching the web but found very little info.

Im switching ISP's pretty soon and the one im going to has nice speed/price but comes at the cost of ridiculous usage restrictions.
Knowing how much BF3 uses per hour would really help me figure out if I should make the move.

If its possible could one of you PC players use a network monitor and play for an hour and give me a heads up? :X
