Yeah I forget how it works, but it can vary how many parties you can make. I don't think it's random, I thought it had to do with how much you leveled up your characters or something. I have one save that will let me do all three while another will only make me create two parties.

Well I just beat the game on the PSN version...and I got used to the idea of there being no changes, and then I was surprised at the very end.

However, I've onl played my physical Greatest Hits copy, so I dunno if this was different in the black label or international or anything, so I'm curious.

In the fight against Bizarro Sephiroth, I was always able to make 3 teams that you could switch between during the battle. After you formulated all three teams, the "leader" of each team would say something determined or inspirational and the fight would begin.
But on this game I just beat, I was only able to make one team, all the others got blown off-screen, and my three party members had their pre-battle quote.

Any idea what that's all about?

The quicker you beat Jenova, the more parties you get during Bizarro.

Although I never understood why they did that, I only use one party ever because it gets the job done much quicker than switching between parties for no reason whatsoever. :wacky:

all in all i'm loving the nostalgic re-play value of FFVII. i forget how good it was......and how bad a translation too!

i'm more surprised that my original copy of FFVII from 1997 still works!!! gotta hand it to PS1 discs they are indestructible!!!

a friend of mine once wrote a four letter expletive on a copy of GTA with a compass and it STILL worked!!

Yeah I never used the other parties either, but still I was always told to make three parties so I was surprised when it only let me make one...

But yeah, Doctor, I agree. This replay is fun, I didn't stop to grind or level once, so it actually added some more challenge to it as I was almost always underlevelled. I still maintain that the hardest boss in the game is the robot in the Underwater Reactor...%(^*'n Lapis Laser :rage:

Using the other parties came in handy when your guys aren't leveled up much. I used to use the multiple parties but it's worthless if you leveled up your guys.

I think the hardest boss in the game was the gatekeeper in the Temple of the Ancients. I always had trouble with him. The first time I played the game I couldn't beat him, and since you're locked in, I couldn't level up so I had to start the game over. I learned to keep multiple save points since then.

At things not being changed:

Late I know but whatever.

They probably didn't change the translation errors because they've become so infamous. I mean come on you wouldn't feel even the least bit sad had they fixed, "This guy are sick?" :(

Also they probably realize how much people have come to count on the W-item glitch.

I can see them leaving this stuff in on purpose. :awesome:

Hate to break it to you, but you can actually level in the mural room, I had to do that a couple times :monster:

big guard and white wind ftw.

going back to my first time, hardest boss for me was a toss up between materia keeper in mount nibel. trine kept raping me over and over, or the jenova that turns up in the forgotten city. i hadn't equipped the water ring and my entire party is usually around 1500hp by that stage. it wiped me clean out in one attack time and time again.

then i spent about 3 hours searching for alexander on the great glacier (my mate said there was a summons there but had no idea where so we went looking) and went into the northern crater with about 4000 hp.

anyone else find the enhancer blade a totally useless weapon, yeah it has full materia slots but it cuts your attack by a third!

Yeah, the first time i played the game I used it because I was magic-obsessed and RPG-inexperienced, so I didn't pay a ton of attention to the stats, just saw all the slots. But I've never used it since.

So nobody else has trouble with the robot in the Underwater Reactor?

I always thought he was pretty easy. Considering he was a robot, just Bolt3, Trine, and Comet his ass. And using Cloud's Climhazard had helped me a lot too. And like you said, Big Guard (the best spell in the game) makes the game a breeze mostly.

Dude I fucking hate trying to find Alexander. I always take forever to find it too since I always forget how to get it. Even when I do it's pretty difficult to find. It's not even a very good summon so I usually just skip it.

I'll agree that Big Guard is the best spell in the game, with White Wind a distant second.

Every time I played on my PS1 version, a different boss was hardest. But then, back in those days I didn't have a memory card, so I had to work super fucking hard to get through things. I still remember every boss that ever killed me - Reno (first fight), Hundred/Heli Gunner (Shinra Tower), Midgar Zololm, Gi Nattak, and Materia Keeper. And I had to restart from the beginning every time.

I finally got a memory card after I made it to Disc 2 :P

But typically, fucking Demon's Gate. Thing has stupidly high defense ratings and it deals a bit more damage than most bosses at that point. Blah. It's not hard, per se, just really annoying.

Actual hardest boss imo? Iunno. Hojo, maybe?

Now that you mention it, I remember having trouble sometimes with Materia Keeper and Gi Nattak (the first time I played). I'm pretty sure you can just cast a Phoenix Down on Gi Nattak and he instantly dies. But w/o that he can be hard.

I also change my answer for hardest boss: that fucking thing you fight when you open the safe in the Shinra Mansion. Hardest boss for sure for me. I can't believe I forgot about him. I always hated his strange combination of magic/physical defenses. If you loaded up on magic but sucked with physical attacks, you'd die, and vice-versa. You had to really strategize with him.

I second that. I tried beating him and failing several times before I gave up and decided to go and level up before going back. Drove me nuts at the time.

In the original, not the Greatest Hits version. But I don't know which version the PSN one is.

Whatever type of attack you kill his first form with will be what he changes to, magic or physical. His physical form is leaps and bounds harder than his magic form for some reason. So I always pound on him with summons and spells until he changes, then use attacks.

AGH Lost Number drove me round the bend, the first time I fought him I was only on like 600/700HP for my characters so he'd kill me everytime. I was only 9 or so and it was one of the first rpgs I'd played so I was really inexperienced and assumed because of the guide I had he was compulsary boss.

On another note I also downloaded it for my psp can't say I saw anything different probably because its a direct port from the playstation to psp still, its nice to play it considering my discs are getting old and tend to skip a bit in the playstation. I do have a ps2 where it doesn't really skip but theres something about playing it for the original console is just so classic.

@ Tenny: I got a memory card after I got through the Forgotten Capital and onto Disc 2. Unfortunately, I had to do THAT twice, too, since I'd do the "open the menu and leave the system running" thing while at school. I left the menu up on the World Map, came back home, and the credits were rolling. I almost cried >;

Gi Nattak was a bitch, since I couldn't do anything about him possessing people. Didn't have the Fire Ring equipped, didn't know about the Phoenix Down bit, anything.

Strangely, Lost Number never gave me any trouble, or killed me. But I had a memory card by the time I found out about how to get Vincent, soooo... :P
