Something just hit me about how simliar these two characters are.

Both are prodigies who have great military conqest and experience plus are crafty villians who manage to make great plans.

However, the biggiest thing that stood out to me about Azula and Sephiroth is their breakdown.

For those who have watched Avatar The Last Airbender would remember that after her friends betray her Azula starts losing her mind and goes from being the slick villianess in the beginning of her appearance to a psychotic wreck.

Sephiroth remember in Crisis Core began to slip into his madness after his two friends abandoned the company they worked for and Genesis taunts emotionally with the fact he is not human.

Another emphasis is the fact both characters had all their lives put into being perfect at the cost of their social skills and mental health.

Not to mention having psychotic fathers who probably were not good for their health.Or the fact that have deep mommy issues that were very disturbing.

I think both Sephiroth and Azula have the same pyschological problems that made them turn into the mental wrecks they are.Although Sephiroth's mental wreck turns him into a villian with the plan to destroy the world while Azula's mental breakdown made her not able to function right.

Sephiroth didn't know Hojo was his father, and wasn't neccesarily raised by him either. He also never knew a mother.

Azula knew her parents, was desperate for her fathers approval since she knew her mothers love was already a lost cause given how much more her mother loved Zuko.

Also Azula was a Princess, Sephiroth was at the end of the day just a ridiculously capable footsoldier.

I see more differences then similarities to be honest.

Sephiroth's friends didn't betray him, they betrayed the company they all worked for. Them leaving was also were not the cause of his breakdown, in fact, Sephiroth wants to know why they left, and by the time he goes to Nibelheim, Sephiroth is even considering leaving himself.

Azula has competition in her goals in the form of Zuko, Sephiroth has no competition, he is the best, no questions asked.

Sephiroth's breakdown is a result of finding out about his birth and what happened to who he thinks his mom is. Azula's is because her friends betrayed her.

Actually, Azula's breakdown still doesn't make that much sense to me character-wise. Azula doesn't have friends in the normal sense of the word, she has subordinates; it isn't like Tai Li and Mai are with her because they want to be. But when they betray Azula, Azula thinks they shouldn't have instead of deciding to kill them, hunt them down like she did with Zuko etc. Actually, Sephiroth is better at making friends then she is, Angeal and Genesis are his firends, not just subordinates, and he acts like they are his friends when they desert (does not want to fight them and purposely lets them go).

Also, Sephrioth severely disliked Hojo, so whatever he did, he wasn't doing it because Hojo wanted him to. Azula wanted to please Ozai so she does want to please him.
