Christmas Carol (2009)

Honestly, this movie was pretty badass. Mainly for the fact that its one of the faithful adaptations of the original book. This isnt a feel good happy christmas story. this is a Ghost story.

By far the most noticable change from the "typical" christmas carol adaptation, is the ghost of christmas present. He's not happy go lucky, yay life! :D He's always laughing, but its not a happy laughter. its fuckin creepy. Plus he has the fucking awesomest death I've seen all year.

Basically if you like Dickens' story, not a christmas carol, but the original story, you'll enjoy this.

There's a few parts where they put it stuff to keep the kids interested, like scrooges comedy hour where he's teeny and sliding around london in a comical fashion, and they had to cut out a bit of the story (showing his transition to a money grubbing ass for instance), but it's pretty damn good.

Plus it's the only version which actually made me CRY. Gary Oldman did a badass job as Cratchit.

p.s. Jim Carrey did an awesome job as Scrooge

I was called into work to watch this movie, to make sure the 3D was working properly :awesome:

It was actually alooooot better than what I was expecting it to be. Unfortunately, I read the book way back in elementary school, so I remember next to nothing about it. But there were definitely some parts that made me shit bricks, and the 3D made it so much freakier. Ngl, there were parts that totally creeped me out, especially since I was in a dark theatre alone watching it (I can get pretty supersticious at times, and the theatre I work at is rumoured to be haunted... lol at my silly paranoia )

But yeah, for those of you who go see it, it's really as light-hearted and childish as I thought it would be. It definitely goes out of it's way to not make it like stand out from other various adaptations of the story. It's not like "omg... A Christmas Carole again? How fucking unoriginal" - which was pretty much what I thought when I saw the trailer.

Unfortunately that is my feeling on A Christmas Carol, does no-one TV or film alike ever come up with something else around christmas? Actually the first words out of my mouth when I saw a trailer for the new one was was, "oh FFS here we go again!" I suppose it is a don't knock it til you try it thing so I can't really comment too much on the new one til I see it for myself.

I will say one thing though, nothing imo will ever beat or stand out more than The Muppets Christmas Carol, best version to be made ever.:monster: Not that I didn't enjoy the book either and I do usually prefer a more faithful adaption to a book but as far as film and TV versions go Muppets is always a thumbs up in my book.

First off, NOTHING will top the Muppet Christmas Carol. :monster:

Anyways, I saw the trailer and it didn't really impress me that much. That said, I know it's hard to tell from just a trailer how different it'll be from other versions. The visual style gave off a weird (and not in a good way) vibe for me, though - it sort of came off as being at an awkward midpoint between stylization and realism.

I feel the same way too, to be honest. I initially thought of Beowulf, which was a semi-traumatic experience. It's something got over it while watching the film because the sets looked so nice. Plus, I couldn't help but admire how well animated it was. The movements/facial expression had the subtlety of reality but the animatedness of cartoon.

Not saying it's a totally great movie or anything, but it's something that would be cool to take your kids to if you want to freak em out or something. Not sure if I personally would pay the $15 bucks to see it, but I think the fact I was payed to go watch it gives me bias :\
