Cloud is not emo dammit!

I'm sorry, but I hate how SE has made Cloud this constantly depressing characters.
It even infected Crisis Core.
Now, last time I played FF7, Cloud was by no means as depressing as he is now.
What happened to "Let's Mosey"?

Well you see, Deneb, they seem to have degenerated Cloudy's personality for the sake of dramatization. To them, an emo Cloud would be more profitable than the 'Let's mosey' version, they want to give him something to overcome, since it seems that Aerith's death was a good starting point for his Emo era.

I somewhat recall an interview/article where they talk about how they had to bring back the messed up Cloud that everyone knew and related to for AC because that's how fans remembered him. Which I can understand, he only becomes himself near the end and even then without voice acting or less blocky characters the differences can be hard to see.

And considering FFVII didn't have Cloud addressing the concerns of rebuilding his broken life from scratch or starting a family with the first person he's ever liked in his life, I wouldn't ride on FFVII giving us an accurate portrayal of how Cloud would be post saving the world.

Well, I have had no experience dealing with Emo.
So...Emo, a little depressed, slightly worrysome, sad cause Vincent stole his cupcake, they look alike to me.
Anyway, my problem isn't with AC.
I love how they dealed with him in that.
My beef is with every other project Cloud has been on.
True he wasn't incredibly depressing in CC, but he wasn't showing any emotion.
I think I have more of a problem with his voice actor. Every line with Cloud is given in the same deadpan voice.
Even in AC, he had little to no emotion through out the whole ordeal.

Well in regards to the point, how would saving the planet bring any sort of redemption, when its the deaths of his personal friends that he feels guilty and unhappy over? Saving the world is nice, but it won't bring raise the dead or alleviate any sense of personal failure out of holding together his own personal life. The past won't change.

Firefighters save countless lives, but the first life a firefighter fails to save can easily shake up their resolve and leave them feeling depressed and guilty.

LOL, I agree. Cloud smiled and even laughed in Crisis Core, before the shit storm after Zack died happened. Sure he was a bit shy, and didn't have the best confidence in himself, but that doesn't mean he was a depressing character. And going back to Nibleheim isn't exactly a joyous event for him, so of course that's when he's going to start clamming up a bit more. (Though, even in Nibleheim he has his nice moments, like inviting Zack to his Mom's house for dinner, or thanking him for the speech he gave to everyone.)

I would have to disagree, here. Crisis Core Cloud is one of the more emotional forms of Cloud. Nothing as bad as what is going to happen in the future has hit him yet, he is able to laugh, smile, be sad, etc... Cloud is able to be himself, basically, without struggling with this other persona. Like I said, just because he's shy doesn't mean he's depressed or doesn't show emotion.

I understand why Cloud would be called "emo" (though I prefer a different term if you're actually being serious) by the time AC rolls around, since he's given up on himself, he thinks he's worthless, and he doesn't show any emotion at all. It's because he's closed his heart to people he cares about.It's understandable, though I don't like the way he acts.

2.) What wangst are you talking about? I actually clocked it for lulz, and Cloud only spends about an average 25 minutes of the film actually in his depressed state of mind. That's not even half. The rest of the time is him back to his usual self fighting and no longer waiting to die from his terminal illness.

So the whole assertion of Cloud being depressed a majority of AC is an inaccurate generalization right from the start.
