Holy and the planet's answer was part of the plot yes... and that is exactly what that scene is referencing.

But as I said, Cloud wanting to ... I don't remember exactly what the game says but something about unfreezing her smile.

Also it just doesn't flow to me, unless you're saying that everyone's Promised Land is found when they die but we know this isn't the case. Can we maybe say Cloud was asking about the Promised Land and what's there? That was a big part of the plot too.

Q stop thinking like a Pinker. Ryu and Tres answered your question in their first post. But you dismissed that and said not only was the question about Aerith. But the answer came from her also.

And I am the one turning this into a LTD? Give me a break.

I'm not dismissing it completely, but my theory makes sense too when you take the whole compilation into consideration. Also, "I think I can meet her there." is STILL an odd way to say "Hey we might all die, but we'll see Aerith in the end!"

EDIT
Besides Ryu also told me his answer was backed in the UO and it's not :monster:
So maybe we're both right?

Holy was the actual plot of FFVII? Really?

No. It was A plot thread. An actual plot thread from the original game. Your hypothesis wholly ignores it. It instead inserts a plot thread that was not raised in the original game.

Why does the planet have to give Cloud instant answers?

So, the planet is clairvoiyant AND a dick. Noted.

Didn't Cloud want to unfreeze Aerith's smile in FFVII?

Not as such. He felt that everyone had to. But he did not out and out say he wanted to.
I mean, while we're being pedantic, be pedantic.

Wasn't that one of (I SAID ONE OF NOT THE ONLY ONE) the reasons he wanted to fight Sephiroth? Who better to tell him if he succeeded than Aerith herself?

This is irrelevant.
It still leaves Cloud holding an idiot ball for two years, and makes Aerith a fuckdamn bitch.

And yes, I said I thought the UO spoke on this. In part, at least, I was correct, it refers to the two of them going to meet people and Cloud discussing the answer with Tifa.

Your hypothesis is an extreme stretch, however. It is not supported directly, it raises unnecessary problems. It requires Aerith knowing, before Cloud does, that he feels guilt over her and Zack's death that only her telling him 'don't beat yourself up' will fix and then NOT TELLING HIM for TWO YEARS.

Okay yes, my theory might ignore holy but why does my theory have to pander to holy? Or is your point that it should pander to A plot point?

Not as such. He felt that everyone had to. But he did not out and out say he wanted to.

Well I know he said something about Aerith on the ship anyway, I don't remember what it was.

How... what?

Your hypothesis is an extreme stretch, however. It is not supported directly, it raises unnecessary problems. But... she didn't tell him for two years...

And I'm pretty sure Cloud felt guilty about Aerith's death right after it happened. He was acting like it anyway. I mean one of the first things the writers wanted for AC was for Cloud to resolve that guilt. They didn't just make up the guilt. It was obviously there.

Anyways how about "What is the Promised Land?" is that so far fetched to believe? It's not that I'm against it being holy it's just that... it doesn't flow right for me if it is.

Cloud: "Is holy going to destroy us?"
Planet: "YOU'LL MEET AERITH!"
Cloud: "uh... yes but that doesn't answer my -"
Planet: "AERITH!"

And isn't giving Cloud an "if" answer also sorta making the planet a dick? "If you do die, you'll meet Aerith again, but if not... who knows? As for what will happen, I'm not telling :awesome:"

...Pander?
It's hardly 'Pandering' to actually address Holy and its meaning for the continual existence or imminent demise of humanity.

Well I know he said something about Aerith on the ship anyway, I don't remember what it was.

We have to unfreeze her smile. Plural. It was in the 'we have to'

You saying Aerith isn't people? Cuz she's people. She my kinda people.

How... what?

How is 'Aerith should be the one to tell Cloud he beat Sephypoo' relevant here? Why would this be the 'answer from the planet' and not something worth the scale of the planet answering.

But... she didn't tell him for two years...

But your hypothesis says that the planet tells him here his promised land is being without guilt, instead of telling him not to blame himself so he can have that promised land. This makes the planet prescient, and a prick.

And I'm pretty sure Cloud felt guilty about Aerith's death right after it happened. He was acting like it anyway. I mean one of the first things the writers wanted for AC was for Cloud to resolve that guilt. They didn't just make up the guilt. It was obviously there.

I'm not saying there was no guilt. I'm saying at this point Cloud was feeling positive about overcoming the guilt. He did not yet feel he could not escape the guilt.

Anyways how about "What is the Promised Land?" is that so far fetched to believe? It's not that I'm against it being holy it's just that... it doesn't flow right for me if it is.

No.
The answer isn't 'If.' The answer is 'Don't sweat it. It's not the end. There's something here beyond this world if this doesn't work'
The 'if' part comes across in Cloud putting Tifa at ease with the plan to meet Aerith 'if.'

Okay pander might not have been the right word but... why does my theory have to incorporate holy?

She's not more than one :monster:

It's Aerith should tell Cloud that it worked and he unfroze her smile is more of what I was going for.

But your hypothesis says that the planet tells him here his promised land is being without guilt, instead of telling him not to blame himself so he can have that promised land. This makes the planet prescient, and a prick.
Did the planet ever tell Aerith exactly where her Promised Land was or how to get to it? Why would Cloud be the exception?

No.

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

It's still an if, isn't it? XD
but yeah way to make it sound nicer... is "Did we do what we were supposed to do and unfreeze her smile?" to far out there? It's just, idk he just SAW Aerith so it makes me think the question includes her somehow, if not her then the Promised Land.

Okay pander might not have been the right word but... why does my theory have to incorporate holy?

Because the the fate of humanity, whether it is good for the planet or bad for the planet, has been hanging for quite some time. Holy might, or might not, wipe them out anyways. That's something only the planet can answer.

Well he says other stuff too but that's not the point.

Yes. And none of them are a question.

She's not more than one :monster:

You sure about that now?

It's Aerith should tell Cloud that it worked and he unfroze her smile is more of what I was going for.

But Aerith is not the planet. He does not say 'And Aerith, let me know if this works' before the showdown with Sephy. He says 'Come planet! Show us your answer!'

Did the planet ever tell Aerith exactly where her Promised Land was or how to get to it? Why would Cloud be the exception?

Why would the planet tell Cloud something incredibly asinine when the planet may or may not die anyways despite their and its best effort. It still requires presience and a dick will of the planet.

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

It's still an if, isn't it? XD

No. The answer is not an if. The answer is 'don't sweat the small stuff.' The 'if this doesn't work' is not about Holy wiping them out, but failing to work.

but yeah way to make it sound nicer... is "Did we do what we were supposed to do and unfreeze her smile?" to far out there? It's just, idk he just SAW Aerith so it makes me think the question includes her somehow, if not her then the Promised Land.

The answer being about Holy and the fate of humanity DOES include Aerith, because she died trying to save humanity. Her presence is the positive sign. Not that the Planet is not mad, but that death is not the end.

god fucking SE making people fight and shit...

You can't blame SE for this'n.

Am I the only one who thought Cloud was talking about two different things rather than one, i.e. 1) his understanding of the planet's answer being that it ultimately wouldn't matter how things went for humans, because they would all live on in some way, and 2) in the Promised Land, whatever that ended up being for him, he would see Aerith again and be absolved of his guilt?

In other words, I think Cloud's comment about the Promised Land was informed by the answer the planet offered, not that it was the answer the planet offered.

No, that's basically my take on it too, though not WRT to guilt, but 'Death's not the end, buck up, at least we get to meet our friend again.'

Okay, you know, I can live with that. The Promised Land part makes sense to me and the holy part makes sense to Ryu. It's all connected and that works.

and yes I'm sure Aerith is one person :P
