Well I was thinking of Satan as the title but yeah. That's how hardcore Mateus is. He booted the devil out of hell and is now ruling it. That's kinda frightening actually. What type of twisted fucker is he to beat up the devil?

LOL and apparently Chaos > Satan in Final Fantasy. LOL.

Actually, interesting that you bring up Satan, Mako. I could go into a whole big christian mythology allusion, but I'm not sure if everyone wants to hear it. ^^;

On the Emperor's line about Sephiroth having taken his life in the previous battle:

It didn't make much sense to me at first, since he's obviously around and it doesn't just seem to be out of chronological order or anything. But as the game goes on, I think that 'previous battle' was more likely the previous cycle of the battle between Cosmos and Chaos, which keeps repeating itself. In the last one, Sephiroth must have killed himself for some reason.
EDIT: Perhaps the entire thing went over my head, but...

Well, Sephiroth did take his own life at the Mako reactor too; even though this is an AU compared to the Final Fantasies we're dealing with...

We know that Sephiroth is not dead even though his body is gone (healing still?). He will not allow himself to meld with the other souls of the planet.

Hmmmm... Oh wait, sorry, I just thought - yeah, Cloud threw him over the railing... And, I'm a big supporter of the 'Cloud threw Sephiroth' theory...

I forgot all that. :P Oh what I shouldn't do when I'm tired.

Man, I'm not sure now. :P Do you think it could've been another leaning towards the 'jump in' theory when it comes to that part of FFVII (like with Last Order)?

Sephiroth didn't take his own life, he was flung into the mako pit, barring the asymmetrical telling in LO and BC. And of course, Mateus wouldn't be able to even see that conflict given the context that this happened in Dissidia's world.

So it's something that happened in Dissidia that we're missing.

I figured a similar thing shortly after my post; perhaps something went right over my head with this subject.

Thinking of all the ideas that are coming to my mind with what you are saying would be better suited for your Sephiroth/Happened? thread, MakoEyes.

If you wish to know right here in few words: Sephiroth is mentally unstable. Shinra only pushed him towards a final, possibly irreversable break-down.

Anyhow, I'm interested in learning more about this too. :o

Mateus' line better not be some allusion to a next FFVII Compilation title, where Sephiroth returns only to take his own life at the end.

...That'd be a rather random, and silly way to make an allusion to another FFVII game, lol.

They're not supposed to know what happened in the previous battles, but it does come up as a plot point. The Emperor seems to know, as he talks about Jecht's past as well.

I don't know if there's more about this in the Cosmos and Chaos Reports. I don't remember if anything else came from it now. It seems to have something to do with his memories?

It's like the secret reports in The World Ends With You/It's a Wonderful World or Kingdom Hearts.

When you beat the game, you get a message telling you that you've got a 'Cosmos Report' written by a mysterious character (mysterious to me; I've only got one :monster:), which are supposed to tell you more about the story.

I got the first Cosmos Report for beating the game with WoL, so I assume that you get a Cosmos Report for beating Shade Impluse with a Cosmos character, and a Chaos character for a Chaos Report?

Oh God...there's now even more to this game.

I just have to ask...would you..be up to translating Warrior of Light's Cosmos Report? When you get the chance? I'm sure these would be very interesting.

I also love how there isn't a single villain that likes him, or that he likes. He seems okay with Golbez though...
I thought about this a bit, consider how Golbez Operated. He was the big controller, he used Kain and the party as his puppets on several occasions. When he realized he was being manipulated, he turned on his manipulator out of principle. He also has an odd sort of relationship with Cecil I think Sephiroth can appreciate.
Also, he took a Meteor to the face and kept on going.

Actually, that might explain why Sephy took his own life at the end of a previous cycle. He figured he was being manipulated and offed himself to cock up Chaos's plans, perhaps?

Sephiroth talks a bit about it to Garland in Shade Impulse (3, I think), I just forgot about that :monster:

He tells Garlend that he's started to remember what happened before, and that he ended his own life to confirm something. Then he goes on to talk about what happens to someone's will when they die, and what if it's freed from the body and becomes part of the world, as spiritual energy.

So.... Sephiroth was trying to become part of Dissidia's energy? Any more light you could shed on this would be much appreciated.

That's it for Sephiroth, he dies shortly afterward (although he does the old 'I'll be back to haunt you' stuff if you play as Cloud).

I thought it was an homage to the original game, really. Jecht's story is in a way (how he used to be one of Cosmos' warriors before Chaos', mirroring how in FFX he was Braska's guardian then later Sin). There's probably more if I remembered the other games better.

Ah that is interesting with Jecht.

But on Sephiroth ('cause I just want to have this all worked out), even though he did die, how was he able to come back?

Here's the dialogue where the Emperor says that just for reference:

Emperor: ...And what does that bastard know? What is his goal?

Kefka: Don't worry about it. Really, that guy is only a sadist who looks down on people.

Emperor: Sephiroth.... at the end of the previous battle, right before my eyes, he took his own life.

Kefka: What? What could be the meaning in doing that?

Emperor: He might be planning something, therefore we must proceed carefully.

PS: A big thanks to Schala-Kitty for the translation.

I would never think Sephiroth would kill his self......

IMG, I don't

Because everything repeats itself. The battle between Cosmos and Chaos, the warriors being summoned. Everything goes in a cycle (??), repeating over and over under the guidance of Garland.

Everyone is meant to forget what happened before, but this time some are aware of it (Emperor, Sephiroth, Chaos).

Hitoshura, thank you so much! I had the feeling that was what was going on, but I wanted to get confirmation.

I love it when I guess plot points right. :monster:

That sounds like a Star Trek episode, hahaha.

Just played through Cloud's using your translation, thanks again.

I still can't get over the fact that Kefka called someone a sadist. Can't get much more hypocritical than that, can ya? :D
