Dacon could become a comic book hero. Swampman is awoken and driven to action when a pair of grimy mobsters toss a corpse into Swampman's favourite bit of marshland. The corpse happens to be a laboratory worker carrying a sample of a brilliant new chemical that metamorphoses living tissue and whatever it is in contact with. The chemical spills into the mucky water, travelling straight to the nearby Dacon, genetically melding his body with that of the plants, insects and other wildlife.

Enraged and confused after being merged with his home environment, Dacon rises up as a tidal wave of sludge and crushes the criminals. Realising that he'll never know a woman's gentle caress or the piercing and paralyzing force of love, he swears to become Swampman, to bring justice to all those who commit crime and ruin the lives of others.
