You just had to link us to this didn't you? Now I'm going to have to get out my wallet and buy this album.

This is how I always imagined it should sound like. Choir and everything.

Too bad that there aren't more arrangements that haven't already been orchestrated before.

And I think we didn't necessarily need Melodies of Life and Suteki da ne, as I think Susan's voice doesn't really fit those songs. She was awesome for Distant Worlds though. Much better than Izumi Masuda (and her accent >.>)

The organ isn't really good, imho. Bit off-tempo.

Of course, I've got a cousin that's awesome with the organ, so I'm biased :monster:.

Edit: Hm, it applies to other parts of the song too. Or at least compared to other renditions I've heard.

Uhm... Uematsu has written over a thousand songs for the Final Fantasy series. Only about thirty or so have been orchestrated, and even though there's like ten different orchestral albums they all have the same freaking songs on them!

I, for one, love that the "Prima Vista Band" is on Distant Worlds II. Say what you want about its 'emotional impact' but at least it's not goddamn "One Winged Angel" again. We want more of this!

I haven't listened to them all yet, but I'm thinking I'm really digging the Distant Worlds remix of Jenova.

Edit:I also have to agree with you on 'One Winged Angel' mr_ite. Its a cool song and all, but you can only remix a piece of music so many times, regardless of how good it is.

Not bad, and i to am glad that one winged angel isnt in this.
I never liked that song to begin with , but since it was about sefiros! it got more attention then it deserved.

Dancing mad is pretty sick though i may buy this album rather then steal it.
edit:

I really like it at 6:30 minutes in it really reminded me of Ayreon.

I'm kind of torn on the J-E-N-O-V-A track. Don't get me wrong, parts of it are just brilliant...

The drums are a turn-off, imo. The OST version really walked the line between symphonic and synthesized well. I don't think this version does. If you're going to go full orchestra, go full orchestra. The constant drum noise is like making every note staccato. It's wacky modernity in a classical sounding piece, which, you know, I get it, but I don't necessarily dig it.

But even then, the Prima Vista Band arrangement isn't entirely new either (although I think this is the first time it's available on CD). xD

I know, I heard it when I saw Distant Worlds last October. But still, it's not something my iTunes shuffle keeps playing because I have so many versions.

This actually meets my seal of approval. There's a few "iffy" moments where it sounds like off-notes... but it's 1000% better than any other live performance I've heard.

Plus the fact that they finally, at last, after 16 years, they put an orchestrated version on CD... yeah, so buying this.

I still think the choir from the Chicago concert did better than this choir. I'm a bit feeling mixed with the guitar over them at the end. But it is what it is.

Then burn it.

I found a link where you can download it for free, but I paid for it because I'm good and wholesome.

Oh I fully intend to pay for it. But just one more week and I can buy the real disc.

And why does Terra's Theme still give me goosebumps after all these years?

This performance was overall clumsy. The orchestrationalisation was out of balance and strange in unnatural ways, not to mention many mistakes. No matter how hard I try to forgive, this version does not do honour to the original potential the actual score has. However I respect the effort.

lawl what a bump

tbh this is one of my favorite Dancing Mad performances and although I think they had some horrible balance towards the end between the Stockholm Philharmonic and Earthbound Papas (plus a somewhat weaksauce organ solo) it was certainly a much better performance than the version on the third Distant Worlds album

ngl imo the only decent performances in the third album was for the FFXIV tracks, everything else was either sloppy or had been covered much better in the Stockholm versions
