At an event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the first series, which began the ongoing Digimon multimedia powerhouse, Toei revealed that the next anime series would return to the story of characters from the original two series/seasons, many not seen since the end of the second series in 2001. The brief video accompanying the announcement (later posted to Toei's YouTube channel) describes "New stories for all the DigiDestined in the world," and specifically highlights Taichi "Tai" Kamiya, who will appear in the new series as a 17 year-old High School student still accompanied by his Digimon partner Agumon.

I JUST FOUND THAT OUT and rushed here to edit my post lmao. i thought it looked too identical ,, that just makes me happier tbh bc Tsuritama is def one of my faves so i know it's GOING TO LOOK AMAZING

WELL IDC WHAT ANYONE SAYS I'M REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE I LOVE THIS ART STYLE AND i guess i'm biased with my opinion because of it but lol

I wish Taichi's hair was still big tho B( also where are his goggles? didn't he wear them until he handed them off to Daisuke??

People are bitching about it, but I've seen screens of Tsuritama and I thought the animation was beautiful, simplistic but bright and colorful. So I have no problem if the anime goes that route. Of course, Digimon series tends to be around 50 episodes so they won't have that much quality but eh.

The Digimon series hadn't had similar animation since the fourth season. I went ahead and marathoned all the newer seasons and I felt weird being a grown ass adult being like "aw yes digimon" but whatever. If people can like My Little Pony, I can enjoy my childhood franchise. The saving grace of the last season was that the animation was really good compared to the older seasons, which always had poor quality.

Anyway, I'm too old to be this excited and I don't even care.

Pokemon, Digimon, My Little Pony, etc etc these things are too old for us yet we indulge it because we enjoy it as we please. Do not let the new generation fans deter your interest of it.

I'm keen on revisiting Digimon's first cast since I got no clue what the FUCK happened to them cos I stopped after they killed Myotismon. They never did bother picking up the second season with veemon and those kids I gave no shit about.

Aw, I watched the first season of this when I was a kid. I couldn't get into the second season though. Still, this thread brings back good memories. :3

This is great! I'm actually watching Season 1 now (only one I genuinely like). Seeing the picture of the original gang of eight from the first series is actually kind of exciting

02 tripped over its own feet when it came to plot and characters. But there's been a lot of talk on why it was a bit of a mess, because they had way too many writers pulling the plot in different directions, but I don't think they have that issue anymore.

That said, 02 was actually pretty fun and I enjoyed watching it. It wasn't the best in the digimon series- not even top 3, but it wasn't horrible. I feel like if it wasn't for that incredibly terrible ending, and the aborted daigomon episode (the kairi one), it would be remembered a lot more fondly.

People are scared about 02 being retconned, but if it wasn't it wouldn't be called Digimon tri. We'll see the 02 cast somewhere, but it pretty much depends on how many episodes we are getting.

Yeah, the trailer was great and I was hyped until the movie/oav announcement. I don't know how it's going to go down, but a theatrical release means us overseas won't get it until months afterwards.

It feels like a bait and switch, and the delay doesn't give me good vibes. I heard some people say it's just to make sure the quality is better, but Toei has kind of fucking up some franchises and it doesn't give me any hope. In terms of nostalgia series they recently rebooted Sailor Moon Crystal felt soulless and I heard Saint Seiya didn't fare much better. And considering they've fucked with the digimon franchise before, ehhhhhh.

But who knows, movies aren't web series. I'm just less hopeful.

But damn that animation.

I think we might have spoken about this in another thread, but I was a huge Digimon fan when I was younger and have re-watched 01 as an adult more than once.

I've seen 1, 2 and a little bit of 3 but haven't watched anything else. It might be time to watch 3 (Tamers? It's the weird one with the cards right?) but I'm super hyped for this. The only thing is I hate feeling like I'm missing out on something so I feel like I have to watch every season ;-;

As a tremendous nerd, I've watched all the seasons and you only need season 1 and 2 to get Tri. All other seasons not only change universe (ala Final Fantasy), but they change in rules as well. (season 4 they actually change into the digimon like a sentai series, and in 6 they merge together like voltron lol).

Season 3 is weird because it shifts very dramatically from fantasy to scifi, and while it has a terribly slow opening, it gets dark for a children's show. It's kind of famous for that, it was written by the same person who did Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost Hound, which are huge mindfucks.

1 and 3 are my favs. You should definitely check out Tamers Lex. Though it's a slow build up, the characters and storyline are extremely well written, and like Splintered mentioned, it gets very dark and is quite mature. Plus, I love the fact that the children got more involved other than shouting tactics from the sidelines, and aided their digimon via the card boosts.

I like 1 and 2 but only in Japanese dub, I say this cos I grew with arabic dub and they used mostly the japanese tracks and translated it all to arabic. Later, I'm hunting Digimon seasons 1 and 2 for JP dub w/ English subs to know wtf is going on lmao. I have some twisted liking to this series cos of how I was introduced to it.

I feel like after season 4 it began to get really childish and the animation got pretty weak. I haven't seen anything of the last season yet so I can't judge that one though. Either way I'm wicked excited to see this.

season 5 apparently is suppose to be more mature although that varies by opinion, I'm not a huge fan of the season but it does have the only human to be a true villain (I mean, a real bad person rather than just a misunderstood individual. I don't really see it, but season 5 fans are small, but rather hardcore.

6/7 (7 is called Hunters and is sort of like the 02 to season 6) is definitely not more mature, but the animation is leaps and bounds past the other season. I enjoyed 6 for the most part despite being a bit more episodical and shifting away from character development, but Hunters is definitely the worst season out of all of them, I have yet to meet a fan, Hunters is what happened if you made Digimon into Pokemon plotwise.
