I think it just means to indicate that humans werent wiped out. Although you could argue that its just Reds kids/grandkids laughing.

Not a clue tbh...we need some of the pros in here who maybe might be able to put some light on this

Sound pretty ambiguous... To me it almost sounds like "sad laughter"...

Or maybe someone forgot they were recording the OST and giggled... :P

"Laugh of the Planet" - It's moved on clearly ;)

But hey, beyond the "proves humanity potentially survived" or "just Nanaki's (gran)cubs" and whatnot theories that pervade, you could say Cid's speech on the Highwind had more of a unique stronghold in the line "That's why I say this planet's still a kid" - it sort of themes in with the laughter at the end. Also, whether the staff picked up on it later, or someone always had a preliminary plan in the background [even if just to leave ambiguity for potential future utilisation], it ties in well with a certain notable theme; namely, in Advent Children of course

well that laughter could be the planet i guess, its possible after all. Or it could just be Sep laughing about still being alive in the lifestream xD

I definitely always took it to mean that humanity wasn't eradicated like Octo said. I understand the inherent ambiguity, but that was what it immediately meant to me.

The Persistent Flourish
I had the feeling that it was meant to leave us thinking. Ambiguity, and what not. I believe the original game was using the laughter to leave open the possibility of humanity's survival, and intentionally not making any clear confirmation. That laughter could mean anything, but it does leave a window open.

It's just to indicate that human civilization was not wiped out. How terrible would it be of them to give us no indication that humans are still around when the entire plot of the game circled around saving the planet and the people on it?
