Does something being written as an homage to another piece of work or taking place in an already established universe fundamentally prevent it from having quality?

I mean, in theory I agree, fanfiction is usually terrible, but it can be good. There's no inherent law of the universe preventing something categorized as 'fanfiction' from having decent quality writing or whatever.

Sorry I don't approve of something that I find inherently disingenuous, not to mention generally boring/crap. Sure, if you enjoy it and all that's cool. But don't expect me to think of it any better because you want me to.

If you can write a decent story about someone else's crap, you can come up with your own that's just as good. Like this RP folks got going on here, that shit takes some real creativity and drive, and can be pretty goddamn interesting to read. All original shit too. I gotta respect that.

I don't see any of that in fanfiction, therefore I think it's garbage.
