Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, the third game in BioWare's Dragon Age franchise, will be released on late 2013. According to BioWare and EA, the game will combines "the storytelling legacy BioWare is known for" with "deep RPG gameplay." It will be built on a new RPG game engine "underpinned by EA’s critically-acclaimed Frostbite 2 technology."

“The Dragon Age team has been working on Dragon Age 3: Inquisition for almost two years now,” said Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal in a statement. “We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans. They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”

I'd love to be able to tell you more -- show some pictures and maybe a video -- but there is no more to tell at the present. As soon as we get any more information, we'll let you know.

I knew that DA3 would probably come out next year. It seems the game will fixed some of the bigger problems with DA2 like the small world and lack of places to explore. I'm very excited about this, Origins is one of my favorite games of all time. I have two requests: please let the game be set in Orlais and bring Morrigan back.

Also:

a great story with choices that matter

Totally has nothing to do with what happened with ME3, really.

Anyways thoughts?

The fiasco with ME3 aside, Bioware is actually, really, really good at player feedback. I enjoy the Dragon Age series and what they do with it, so I'm having an open ear to see what's next.

I'm not really a blind gushy fan type of guy, but they definitely have my attention.

I will reserve my gushing excitement for when actual content is released

DA3 was always a certainty, so only real news to me is that they're using Frostbite 2.

baw I need to get a new OS soon ;-;

DA2 was a novel sort of RPG, a neat experiment in story and structure that I found far more interesting than Origins/Awakening. It was bogged down by time constraints and resultingly shitty level design, though, so it's good to hear that they've gotten the time they need to work on an even better DA title this time around.

It's a shame really because the concept of the game was interesting, had EA not pushed DA2 out before it was ready it would've been a much better video game. However some of the problems with the game cannot be attributed to time constraints like the abomination Anders was turned into by Jennifer Hepler or certain quests that continued to the next Acts but no matter how you handled them you were still forced into the same conclusion (sound familiar ME3?).

More news on Dragon Age 3:

David Gaider lead writer of the Dragon Age series has confirmed that DA3 will have multiplayer in some form.

The Developers of the game have said that the game will most likely be set somewhere more French and by that they mean Orlais.

I would happily forego having a voice acted main character to have those huge amounts of dialogue options we had in DA1. But I know that won't happen.

SOOO EXCITED FOR THIS!

I love the dragon age series. I was highly disappointed with DA:2. I really hope DA:3 will be a lot better. Can't wait to get more info on it! And Carlie you know if there is multiplayer you and are going to penetrate the shit out of it together right?

I enjoyed my voiced acted snarkyHawke and dialogue tree, it made the conversations more fluid and I felt like I was actually controlling a character that had a personality. The dialogue content was not on par with the one in Origins though.

Also the Co-founders of Bioware just retired. I don't know if that means anything for this game.

I guess we will find out when the game comes out.

You know it.

Eh, I know what you mean and all, I love femShep's character with her voice and everything (obviously). But it was fun in DA1 to navigate those enormous dialogue trees with a much greater chance of finding a response that YOU would choose. Making the character more you, rather than a character you're guiding.

I have no problem with guiding-a-character, I love JRPGs, after all. But it was a nice change of pace for me in DA1.

I don't see how, with enough time on their hands, they can't make a voiced character with a bajillion dialogue options (read: The Witcher). Bioware's decision to narrow the character down between three personality archetypes was a deliberate design choice.

I certainly agree that more choices would be neato, but I actually played the first Mass Effect before I played Origins and I actually found it really difficult to go back to watching a mute protagonist telepathically communicating via text on screen. There is such an absolute disconnect in that regard. Some consider it an immersive way for a player to involve themselves by projecting more easily without someone else's voice to bother them, idk.
I just think it's one of those archaic RPG things that we don't necessarily need.

Opposite to ME3's multiplayer, I'm not sure how they're going to implement multiplayer in Dragon Age. Maybe a room session structure ala the great Neverwinter Nights or Diablo? :monster:

I can do without voice acting if its for my greater enjoyment ln particular, voice acting turns JRPG's from neat adventures into bad anime.

The thing is that I'd rather them either voice everything, or voice nothing. Making some concerted effort to voice everything except the protagonist seems archaic in this day and age. =P

Also, Bioware's voice talent is top-notch anyway.

I'd hardly call Elder Scrolls/Fallout archaic. And there was just as big a 'disconnect' in ME when Shepard would say an answer completely different than how I intended - particularly with Jacob.

But either way, dialogue choices were the least of DA2's problems, this was just a personal preference of mine.

Actually, Elder Scrolls and Fallout do have a rather archaic dialogue system, imo :monster:
Also, Bethesda (and Obsidian) seem to have problems hiring voice talent because there only seem to be about thirty-odd voice actors to voice the hundreds of NPCs they tend to field into their sandbox titles. I found it the most painful in Skyrim (mainly because the NPCs themselves weren't particularly interesting either), but it's only something I hold against the games because of the enormity of the content that makes it more apparent than in other comparable RPGs.

I will admit off the bat that Mass Effect had silly paraphrased dialogue options, though. Granted, it was something the writers took on board and improved in the following game.
The flaws in that system were not intentionally created.

In ME1 more than a few times two of the three option given to you in the dialogue tree were the same thing in spoken dialogue which was just lazy, that was mostly fixed by ME2. The conversations with my mute Warden felt awkward and detached so that's of the main reasons why I prefer a voiced acted player character, as long as it's good not like that Mark Meer shit, srsly Nolan North was rumored to be one of the possible choices to voice maleshep, Nolan North and Jennifer Hale together how the fuck did that not happen?

I honestly have no clue, maybe doing story type missions with friends? Or fighting other people online? Or fighting mooks like they do in the ME3 multiplayer? Honestly as long as the single player storyline is good I don't really care much what they do with multiplayer.

Nolan North is obviously too busy voicing everything else to star in another Bioware game

Put another way, when talking Mass Effect, I tend to say "my Shepard did X/is an Infiltrator." Rather like jrpgs ("My Ramza's a Dragoon"). Or even "I had Shepard say X"
But in Skyrim/DA1 I tend to say "I'm a mage," "I just told the guy to piss off."

If that makes sense. I don't have a problem with either, but there's definitely a difference and I enjoyed having the latter in DA1.

Mark Meer's voice acting was kinda meh in ME1, but he improved throughout ME2 and put up a pretty solid performance in 3.

They basically picked Meer because he's been a Bioware staple, I think. :monster:

OT: I hope they bring in Cassandra as a main character in DA3 :3

Mark Meer in ME1 sucked, everything was a dull surprised and just nasal and annoying, he got better in the next two games but that really ain't saying much.

Cassandra at least will most likely have a larger role in DA3 since she's a Seeker and Agent of The Divine but it would be awesome if she was a party member.

I remember finding this really old article about how they were considering making Cassandra a party member. I'd definitely be all for it ;3; but I wonder in terms of gameplay how exactly they'd fit her in.

Probably some wierd glass-cannon deal type thing, idk. She did seem to gravitate between sword-shield in Dawn of the Seeker, though, so there's that.

Honestly, I think anything goes when it comes to possible party members for DA3, since unlike the ME series there's very little direct connection between the stories of Origins and 2.

That movie was awful, no wonder Cassandra is so pissed at the beginning of the second game. I think she would probably be the soldier/tank type.

As for other party members yeah they'll probably be new ones but they could possibly bring characters from the last 2 games that had a small role like Merrill and Bella. I can tell you some of your former companions will most definitely not be joining you in this one like Morrigan for obvious reasons, Anders
cause that annoying fucker is dead
and Wynne
sigh Dragon Age: Asunder :'(
. Leliana will definitely have a larger role though.

New info on the game:

The title appears to confirm a leaked questionnaire that emerged last month, with details suggesting “The empire of Orlais is riven by civil war; the Chantry is divided; the Templar order has broken away; the Mage circles have rebelled. Some unseen force is manipulating events, bringing about disorder and destruction. Out of this confusion emerges The Inquisition.” According to that leak, you'll play as the leader of the Inquisition and can make your character “a rogue, warrior or mage and set up your crew from up to ten complex companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them."

Not quite surprised by any of that considering most of it had been alluded to by the third act of DA2 :monster:

That, and the name of the game. Whaddaya know, a simple game title that actually directly refers to the story! :wacky:
but moar solid details pls
