If you're really up for playing again, try Mark of the Assassin and Legacy. They're fun and interesting and get you the fuck out of Kirkwall (paying for themselves right there). Legacy in particular has a good bit on darkspawn - which I enjoyed because I'm not sure why the series focus shifted away from them to mages vs templars in the first place.

Do not encourage Bioware by paying for shit characters like Sebastian.

Why does DA suck so bad at males? Where is the Garrus, the Wrex, the Zaeed of DA?

Is not just DA though, most Bioware games don't exactly have a wide variety of good male characters. DA at least has Varric and Oghren.

Yeah Zevran is great too plus he knows 12 massage techniques, 6 different card games, he'll do wonderful at parties.

Just going to recount the part in Origins where I tried to start a conversation in camp and he started off with "I am yourrs" in that 80s pornstar voice

the ninja romance was a huge problem in DAO. not quite as bad as "one conversation and i wanna be in you" kaidan, but yeah.

knowing the conversation cues beforehand + having the feastday gifts/pranks smooths this out, though.

Oh ninja romances, that annoy the living hell out of me. One of the few things I prefer in DA2 over DA: O is that it had romantic specific conversation responses so you wouldn't end accidentally in a romance without even knowing like it happened to me with Morrigan and Leliana or incite weirdos like Kaidan.

I remember my ninja romance with Zevran. I ended up not being able to start any conversation with him or Alistair (whom I was deliberately romancing) because both would confront me about where our relationship would be heading.

And I was stuck in the Sacred Ashes quest >.<

I swear, I was just being nice to the elf, that was all.

the thing with zevran is he has the most obvious begin/end romance flags. idk every conversation i ever had he'd flirt but then backpedal with "but are you SURE it's okay?" i realize so many of these flags are bugged right the fuck out, though, unless you've got the mods to fix them.

i actually started a new file recently (mage, blood/SH so i don't have to take wynne anywhere ever).

i actually think he and morrigan are the easiest characters to talk to. alistair will let himself be quizzed only about the grey wardens unless you toss him gifts or put out, and although i do like leliana i always end up in an endless circle of "tell me long stories that don't net me any goddamn approval". i can always get really high approval with the morally grey characters so easily. but maybe i'm just weird like that.

I found Morrigan the most entertaining but goddamn I had to save before every conversation. One wrong syllable and MORRIGAN DISAPPROVES -100.

Obviously Morrigan is my favorite character, Morrigan disapproves -5 points is one of my favorite memes. With the feast day and infinite gifts is really easy to avoid losing a lot of approval from her.

Wynne is amazing, I take her almost everywhere, plus I love that's like the only party member that asks me about how I'm feeling and comforts me about the shit I've gone through.

i was okay with wynne on my f!cousland. my f!amell can't stand her (especially if you're a blood mage, she tries to sell you out right after you save everyone in the tower UuuUGGGGHHH). she usually stays parked in camp in my playthroughs because it's really hard to try and build armies while your grandma is chirping in the background...especially on city/dalish elf playthroughs, where all my PC wants to do is bathe in the blood of shems.

Wynne is an extremely useful character in gameplay though, no one dies in my party when she's around.

The best party member is Dog, he always follows you without ever complaining or losing any approval.

City Elf is my favourite origin, I enjoy cutting Vaughan's head off.
Dwarf commoner is good to, I like telling Morrigan my mum is a useless drunk.

Cutting his head off should always be the outcome when you kill that bastard.

My favorite origin is the Male human noble.

Wynne is an extremely useful character in gameplay though, no one dies in my party when she's around.

she's alright at first if you don't mind micro managing (her default tactics are really bad). if you're a mage or you give morrigan group heal, you don't really need a dedicated healer. usually only my warriors really take heavy hits, but i have them chug potions. if your rogues have stealth they should never die


i love the city elf origin, although i think the dwarven noble is one of the best written (too bad i hate playing dwarves). i'll always have a soft spot for my mage babies, though. :'c

Honestly I hate playing as anything other than a rogue, having to switch to Zevran or Leliana to steal stuff, disarm traps or open treasures is a pain in the ass, plus I'm a kleptomaniac I need to steal and open treasures myself.

no really idk i'm sad about this??? unless they have a more in depth way to determine personality, which would be cool, but i really hope they don't scrap the idea altogether. part of the replay value was seeing what a snarky!hawke would say in a situation as opposed to a bitchy!hawke.

I honestly really enjoyed playing as Snarky Hawke aka Chuckles. I think the idea of giving Hawke a particular personality was interesting but it was executed poorly like many things in DA2. I would like some of it returning if they come up with a better way to do it and not make certain actions in the game be determined by Hawke's personality.
