Considered putting this in "The Venue"... but heck, ESC has always been more Entertainment than Music, eh :monster:

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR* AGAIN! tbh, imo better than Christmas...

I watched Semi 1 yesterday, Semi 2 is tomorrow. Out of the 10 contestant that went to the finals yesterday, the only disappointment for me was that Croatia didn't get through, but Belgium is not a bad substitute. gtfo from my Johnny Logan t-shirt yo

Semi 2, I have a list of wants (Latvia! Austria! Georgia! (??)), but tbh my only real want is that Czech Rebublic doesn't go through because that's song is rapey so horrible.

Favourite 5 for me Semi 1:

Cyprus (tbh best performance so far imo, maybe some were technically better (like Ukraine) but I thought this was ace)

Lithuania

Ukraine

Malta

Italy (featuring them because they're one of the 1 Big Five/ host country to be featured this semi):

Shoutout to Russia and Azerbaijan as well. I liked both but if I had to pick five... well. I think the singer of Malta had a horrible performance but I know she's much, much better than that, so. She's on the list. (Also it's Malta!! They love Eurovision and have never won...)


* Thank fuck we're back on track... I mean I'm thankful the Eurovision-movie coincidentally came out last year, it was there when we needed it, but to have a real, REAL Eurovision-week again... IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

Anyone else following this year?

Zitti e Buoni is a good song, but I think it's a bit overrated and didn't deserve winning Sanremo.

Oh wow! It's so cool that the movie introduced you to it! It's really funny because a lot of what's in it is spot on with how Eurovision is in reality :lol: Bf and I actually had a giggle about it last night - 'you know what, this voting really is like the semi finals voting in the movie!'
I'm happy Ferrell was the one to make that movie, because he did it with such love.

Did you have another favourite? I usually like Italy's entries, I never consider that there might have been one that was even better, because they're all usually pretty good. That being said... I kinda prefer Finland's rock song to Italy's.....?
My fav Italy entry is Mahmood from 2019 <3
Edit: I also really liked Francesco Gabbani from 2017 as well, I knew all of the lyrics lol

That said I can't fucking wait for this, dropping the kids off at my folks for a sleepover and bought myself and the wife a bottle of gin each. Shits gonna be gooooood

I liked Un milione di cose da dirti and Musica Leggerisma. It's a shame Folcast was eliminated soon, his song was beautiful.

And yeah, Soldi by Mahmood was a pretty huge hit around here, damn catchy.

Also, lol, this is silly but apparently shipping (do we blame K-pop?!) reached Eurovision - I mean it was a thing with Ulrikke and Tom last year but this year they took it to a new level and It's glorious :lol:

Edit: What makes it funny is of course they can't meet (and would have otherwise very early) due to the the strict Covid-19 precautions in Eurovision. I mean, looking at it Tix might sound like a creeper to Efendi, but they both have a huge team behind them so hopefully she doesn't feel majorly uncomfortable by this xD

I'm starting to think the gays hate the Eurovision movie, or at least have no interest in it for some reason, because the only people I've met who love the whole Ja Ja Ding Dong thing are straight. It's both Internet and work people. I'm just curious.

I haven't seen it. Hear me out:

I find Will Ferrell deeply unfunny. I don't like any of his movies or his general comedy style. I'm also annoyed that on the surface at least, this is an American production ripping into yet another topic it doesn't actually understand. These are the main things that have prevented me from watching it.

All that said, everyone I know who actually likes Eurovision also loves this movie and thinks it's hilarious, so I might watch it today before I watch the final.

@Lex yeah, I completely see that and those were my thoughts and fears as well before watching it. If I remember correctly it was A who started the movie on Netflix and it was fine enough so I kept watching. (Often when he puts on movies I watch for 15 minutes and then leave the room lol.) And then I ended up really liking it. Turns out Will Ferrell has a Swedish wife and has been watching Eurovision for like 20+ years, so he's less of an outsider. The movie, while it does make fun of ESC at times, it does so with great care and love. It also features cameos/ a singing act with several ESC winners and well known ESC artists. The soundtrack is great too. Edit: I'm not a Ferrell fan either and there are some scenes that are a bit too Ferrell-y for my taste but they are few. He stays pretty grounded and lets the other characters have the spotlight and when he does take it, it's usually for character growth moments.
