FF14 TLS Guild thread

Isn't it a little too early for this?

I agree, Me and Munatik talked about getting everyone to decide on a guild name first, us all arguing about that will kill some time before the game comes out.

Lol why would you need Munatik's permission? I don't think we voted her leader. And I think the application criteria should involve some more group input with guidance from whoever we do decide to be our leader, and it's way too early to decide something like that.

And for what it's worth, I was the first one who mentioned that a guild/clan would be neat, then I believe Tetsujin or Dacon agreed. :awesome: Then a few pages later Munatik prodded to get it started.

Oh, and if we can name/rename guild ranks, we need a rank of "flunky." Because I said so.

Oh yeah, and obviously I'm in.

This is great justice also.

"The Lifestream" might sound kinda gay as a guild name though. Maybe just "TLS" and people can ask us what it stands for if they're curious enough.

I think the Life Stream is a good solid guild name , in most cases it should be the proper character length and its a really neat name imo. It goes well with the forum name as well :P

Way i see it is it would be a guild effort to allow or deny applications.
Heres the way i see the process happening.

1.New member makes his application>
2. Leader or SiC gets it and makes a thread about it in a special section for voting>
3. We all review the application, review his her posts make sure hes not in the black list then vote whether or not he/she can get it.
4.After say 5 days of the poll being open (or a unanimous yes/no) we let the person in.

Afterwards, imo we should keep all new recruits under a special rank only for them for say about 2 weeks.
With in these 2 weeks all members (not just leaders) observe the member and then we can decide whether they stay or not for good.

I just fear that the majority of players of an FF MMO will recognize "the lifestream" from FF7 and think we're just naming our guild after some random element from an FF game to be OMGK00L!! rather than after a website community that was named that.

Then again, since it IS an FF game, I suppose we certainly wouldn't want some other group of dickwads naming their guild The Lifestream unless those dickwads are us.

..er, I mean....

Screw it, The Lifestream as a guild name strokes my ego sufficiently because I came up with it in the first place. Ergo, I approve. :awesome: If it's what the masses want then I've no right to deny them my genius.

This is the way pretty much all high level guilds on dofus do. Imo its the best system to go with.

Yeah. A few of them can slip through the cracks but before long they show how much of an idiot they are so all we need to do is b7 them and the problems dealt with.

Well, I would be interested in this, if and when I have the appropriate hardware to do so - I guess online through the PS3 is the way to go (if one has the PS3.)

Anyhow, I just thought to throw in my two cents worth of 'I wanna join!' before things get too far off and heavy to be missed.

Though, I'll be a total newbie at it, and not even sure how good I'll be for the guild - at least game playing wise. :P

It'll be my first MMORPG...

Thats totally fine imo , MMORPGS arent to hard to learn once you start to figure out the basic builds (then later making custom builds is all the jazz when new equips are introduced to the game.)
Im all for helping new comers to the mmo world learn the ropes as well , well as soon as i learn the ropes myself to FFXIV lol.
Anywho ill get to adding names.

Btw i will most likely be playing this via ps3 , i cba playing on the laptop.

Same here, but not because of being 'cba' - because my laptop and/or desktop computer will be more for art and website designing then much else. Save for browsing the internet and Microsoft Word, perhaps Excel. :)

Yeah depending on where I live i'll hopefully be on the ps3. And I don't mind helping either as i've had almost 6 years of mmo experience (with only 4 mmo's mind you :wacky:) but as gabe said we need to get used to playing ourselves first. :monster:

I'll be right there with you two. Thing is, when we start hooking up for these player vs. player things, etc. Whatever they will have; that's when my 'noob-ness' shall possibly be showing through. :P

meh i'm not much of a pvper (player vs player) either. I enjoy pvm (player vs monster) more with a group of friends.

I should add that I definitely approve of flunky as a rank, fgj. :awesomonster:

It is epic TLS meme and needs to be immortalized.

I might be into pvp aspects depending on how it's handled. When it becomes less of a skill thing and more about who grinded pvp longer is when I lose interest. I loved pvp in WoW until that point. Age of Conan seemed to have some fun pvp too, but I didn't stick around long enough to see if they pulled their heads out of their asses with the way they handled actually putting you in a situation where you could attack other players.

PvP is tough , especially when you first start at it.
In a balanced MMO its anyones game and when that adrenaline starts pumping fighting just gets all the more harder.
I remember my first big pvp win (i was level 70 and i attacked a level 110 player), he was good but he was relying on summon ai , needless to say he got pinned into a small area behind his summons and couldnt target me, i AoE'd him and his summons to death , and finished him up with a harder direct spell (explosive flask+melacholy ftw).
I was jittery for atleast an hour after the fight its such a great feeling , its the only reason i kept on pvping in that game :)

That said those of you willing to give this a shot keep in mind MMORPG's are a big life style change pertaining to your socail life. You will find yourself playing the game for hours on end often times passing up things happening in real life. Im not saying your going to decline every irl oppurtunity but after awhile you will find youself trying to explain to your friends just why you didnt go to a party one night.
And ill tell you what , explaining it is fucking hard to non-MMO players, theyll just sit there and say its just a game and to ditch your online buds , but to you its going to be a drastically different end of the spectrum :monster:

As long as you can balance both of them youll be fine but dont be surprised if you start missing out on things :reptar:

Aye, I think a name would be fun to nail down, or at least a working one until if and when more info is released about races/classes and general idea of how group play will be balanced. :monster:

I also want to say that I see where using this forum to host guild activities seems like we're e-squatting or taking advantage of Cthulhu. I am very mindful of that. However, I see a FFXIV guild as an extension of this community, a community which is already focused around FF-related news. In my mind, a guild section would take up a relatively small portion of the forum, and it would merely serve as a home base for organizing shit and for those in the FFXIV game who want to learn more about us and our attitude. In my experience, a good 75% of guild-related communication happens either in game or through voice chat anyway, so we may end up needing less sections. I would say at the very least we could use a guild news section, a guild resource section, and a raid discussion/sign-up/organizing section. Class sections would be really nice, too, but we'll see.

I know that is not very persuasive as far as the whole e-squatting thing, but for this reason I don't think TLS guild would do better with its own site right away. To be fair, I think a separate site idea may be worth revisiting if the guild takes off and gets big enough. We could have a member cap, too, but I hope it never comes to that.

Edit: Keeping The Lifestream? Cool. Too bad. I was hoping for lists of epic brainstorming with names like "OMG BEES" or "Sephiroth's Flunkies".

Having a super huge guild would be un-ideal imo , we could have one big portion of the guild that operates in an opposite timezone as us , imagine a good half of the guild full of people you never see online lul.

It would be nice to have a prefered time zone of play that way we can always usually be on around the same time to increase guild activity. a key component to a good guild is group activity and guild chat. We cant be silent and we shouldnt be loners , we should be a nice secondary source for members or even a primary source of activity in the game.

About squatting the forum , if yops not up for it then ill help in making a seperate forum for the guild , be it SMF ,vB or even IVF ill help out.
But having the guild forums section on here would be most ideal, bringing in extra hits and potential long lasting members would be awesome :)

Timezones is why power is starting to fail. During dead time (about 3pm my time) you'd be lucky to have 10 members on out of 112. :<

Pretty much, I think it will turn out to be great advertising. But yeah, finding a time zone we can all agree on might be a challenge. IMO, sometime soon we should conduct a headcount of who's definitely interested in joining the guild to help us figure that out. I know none of us really know where we are going to be in a year, but hey, it would be something else to do....

Its a hard thing to balance you could 100% only people in a certain range of time zones , or attempt to spread it out evenly but your still going to end up with a set amount of hours where the guild will just be dead.
Theres no avoiding it :P

It's funny, I was apart of a "Guild" 2 years before the game came to America. Called "The Glorious Alliance" (aka Glorious FF) but we were strongly built, and we still talk to each other though many of us don't play the game (I do) but yeah. Never to early.
