FF7 Delusionals

What is he on about the 2 years thing? Did someone there deny that? I don't get it. More context info pl0x. :wacky:

Thanks to the Ultimania timeline, FF7 apparently ends January 0008, and AC's events occur sometime in 0009. Now it's entirely possible for it to still be two years later, it could be in Winter/Autumn of 0009, but he's getting pissy and now he's just outright claiming the Ultimania guides cannot be considered canon or whatever.

Also, more.

Ok, WHO at SE wrote it? Were they involved in the scenario or planning of the game's storyboards? Or was it some fanfic'er who got lucky and landed a writing job and started writing copy for SE? You don't know! I mean, God forbid you actually QUESTION Ultimania! It must be 100% correct, completely infallible, and there is NO way that someone screwed up on a date because they just didn't bother retaining consistency!
Oh, wait, that's ENTIRELY possible! Seriously, there are at least four separate occasions between FFVII, AC, and DoC, if not MORE that point toward the dates we are discussing, here! (Nanaki's ending/prologue, Reno's dialogue, the radio in Complete, and the opening of DoC, Shinra News) Are you actually comfortable stating that ALL of these are wrong just so that Ultimania might be accommodated?
Seriously?!
Oh, and let's not forget the LOGICAL fact that it takes a hell of a lot longer to build a city (Edge) than the lesser part of a year! Hell, even TWO years would be stretching it!

The guy claims to be older than me, that's fine but I'm still talking down to him. When he wants to calm down and discuss things rationally with us, I'll treat him as an equal. If he's going to shout and scream and call other users names, I'm going to treat him like the child he's showing himself to be.

If he wants to say that SE fucked up, and he doesn't like the retconning and additions or decisions about the plot, that's fine, and a lot of people would and do agree with him. Everyone, especially fans and paying customers, has the right to criticize or dislike the direction the creators are taking with a creative license.

However, for him to say that it's not canon because he doesn't like it or he feels they're not doing it right, is retarded. Even if SE were objectively shitting all over the franchise, it's theirs to shit on. They own it.
IAWTP. Also, I believe that anyone who owns a franchise has the right to make it as good or as bad as they want. Like Laurell K. Hamilton or Anne Rice. You own it, what you write will be considered canon, but people buy quality work and not ten cent paperbacks or the equivalent thereof.

Discontinuity refers to writing out part of a continuity because you don't like it. I don't know what the adjective form of that would be.

Oh, but it annoys the living Hell out of me. First of all, it's pointless. Second of all, there are idiots who try to make others subscribe to their insane opinions.

Someone once argued with me that "Genesis isn't even really a character," because he didn't like the direction they took with him. Dead serious. His exact words were, "If Genesis was a real character, FFVII would be a piece of shit. It isn't, therefore, Genesis is not a real character."

Non sequiturs on every account, & absolutely no way to argue with someone like that. I blew them off in disgust of their sheer stupidity.

I don't really get the trouble with the timeline. FFVII ends in January 08, and AC some time in 09 without a specific date. Given that they've said it was two years later, it could easily be the end of 09, thus making it roughly 2 years.

Which took like half a minute to think up, and involved absolutely no baaawwwwwwing :monster:

It's also true. Take a look at Yuffie and Barret's aged. Between nov 20 and mid Dec of 09.

I think the trouble with FFVII is that people had years to build up their own theories and explanations for things. Then some poxy book comes up and tells you "lulz, no you're wrong." I guess if you were really invested in it, it might be a bit hard to take.

But get over yourselves, plz :awesome:

That's the one thing a lot of those folks can't do.

Have you told him he's getting pissing over it being 'a year and eleven months' opposed to 'two years?' Because that need to happen.

As you wish. I must admit, I find it rather enjoyable acting like this. I consider myself a friendly guy, but when you're gonna act like a brat, well, like I said, I'll treat you like one.

When clicking that second link, be careful, that user has set up their page to randomly display an image, it scared me when I saw it. Fair warning to you guys.

The real issue at hand here is that SE screwed up. Ergo, this guy knows more about FF7 than they do.

So wait. He's a guy posting on the FF Wiki, complaining about information on the Wiki, when he's proven wrong going on long rants about it... and you are the fanboy? :awesome:
"GRRR CURSE THAT ULTIMANIA I MEAN WHO EVEN KNOWS WHO WRITES IT.

OH AND FUCK YOU FANBOYS WHO LIVE AND DIE BY IT TOO. HOW DARE YOU ACCEPT IT AS CANON"

:awesome:

The FF wiki is fairly poor anyways...one of the admins is 15 and pretty much deletes anything he doesn't personally agree with. It's easier to get decent info on gamefaqs, and gamefaqs is the worst place on the planet.

And who would that be? IMO all our Admins are competent and intelligent, that's why we appoint them.

EDIT - Ah. Most of out Admins are 20 years old or older, so I'll assume the bitterness is a result of bad experience.

Sorry dude, I didn't really keep track of names as it wasn't that important, but it turned me and my friends off the site as a useful source of info so we just never visit it. :)

Uh......huh. For something so not important it seems to have convinced you an entire site is useless.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeathOfTheAuthor

Death Of The Author is a concept from the field of literary criticism which holds that an author's intentions and biographical facts (politics, religion, etc) should hold no weight when coming to an interpretation of his or her writing; that is, that a writer's interpretation of their own work is no more valid than the interpretations of any of the readers.

...

In the fan community this has changed into the idea that something is only canon if it appears in the original source material, and thus any Word Of God has no more weight to it than any piece of fanon cooked up by the fans. Though some fans honestly hold this opinion, many only use this as an excuse to ignore any Word Of God that they don't like. Some fans can even take this further, and use this to ignore parts of original source material that they don't like, per the Fiction Identity Postulate.

Well tell the tards they don't get to decide what is canon.
