Double post. My trailer observations. Yes I posted this all on the Discord.

As a Vincent stan, I immediately noted that Vincent is wielding what appears to be a modern version of his OG weapon, Quicksilver. The Cerberus emblem is still on the coffin, so perhaps he'll acquire Cerberus proper via a sidequest in Part 3.

Vincent's bio from Rebirth's official Japanese website states that he's a self-proclaimed "security guard". In Remake's continuity, I don't think Vincent is only sleeping in his coffin. I think he's made it his duty to ensure nobody steals the research conducted in the manor, thus preventing the terrible experiments that were performed there from being recreated.

Oh look, it's Madam M at the Gold Saucer. Andrea was in the last trailer, so I'm betting Chocobo Sam will appear too in Rebirth.

Really interesting that Cid wants to repay Aerith specifically, and that the Tiny Bronco can fly. The official Japanese website also states that Cid "runs a transportation business based in the ruins of an abandoned airfield". It would appear the Rocket Town scenario has been completely overhauled, or moved to Part 3 entirely.

They probably should've shown unconscious Aerith in Zack's scene before Marlene says "When she wakes up, a scary man is going to kill her" so that normal people can connect the dots. Not everyone watches these things 50+ times like me.

Regarding Jessie at the Gold Saucer, I wrote this on March 25th, 2022 and not a single person applauded:

Lately I’ve been posting my thoughts on Discord where they are less permanent and therefore less embarrassing for future me, but since people like to screenie me for posterity anyway, I figure I’ll just do it first:

Obviously just speculating here but I think Troy Baker is voicing Cid? Kinda sounds like him.

Jessie might not be alive in the main Beagle timeline. When we see her dancing at the Gold Saucer I think the press release stuff indicated that is just a VR recreation of her.

A shameless capitalist venture using technology to profit off of an actor after their death? That would be the first really prescient piece of political commentary FF7R has done so far.

They're definitely setting things up nicely for Aerith to be killed...

That damn shippy-ass trailer made me want this even more lol like if they’re gonna shiptease this hard then it’d be a wasted opportunity to not pay it off as tragically as possible

I seriously doubt that they are not going to recreate the iconic scene of Sephiroth impaling Aerith from the back with hid sword. That's just too essential and iconic of an image (like Sephiroth glaring with fire behind him) for it not to happen.

They still could and most likely will, but at this point I wouldn’t put a fakeout past them. Aerith survives only for Cloud to finish the job, or Cloud watches her get stabbed in a vision and something else happens after, or Cloud defeats an illusion of Jenova only to her to have actually been Aerith etc.

SE is getting away with Zack being both seemingly alive and dead at the same time. I can’t remember the last time a studio managed to both have their cake and eat it this much and still get such largely positive reception, but hey, they pulled it off.

As long as the end result is that she’s dead, I’d be more surprised if they didn’t put some kind of twist on Aerith’s death and played it 100% straight.

I am sure there will be additive changes before and/or after, but I just can't see them changing the moment of the actual death scene from the sequence/flow of the OG much.

Even with the changes we have seen, you don't have a scooch of a belief they could want to do something that would provide that 1997 moment for this new generation? Many people said introducing Sephiroth too early would ruin the iconic scene of the Masamune impaled in Pres Shinra's back. Yet, it happened. Idk. With how ambitious they've been with this project, and as a creative person, I can see them wanting to push this to new heights.

....except it didn't? There was a whole other scene with him hanging off the side of the building and monologing with a gun and then Barret gets stabbed too and there's a Jenova boss battle and then the ghosts bring Barret back to life and then Sephiroth flies around with a clone and commits suicide or something...? Like, that's not the same scene as finding the main villain slumped on his desk, his seat of power becoming a silent tomb. That's not the same scene at all.

Wild times in the FF7 fandom. There's folks like me, who found Remake's deviations to be the most interesting part about it, and my opposite, those who found Remake's deviations to be the worst.

Then there's folks in the middle who have retroactively convinced themselves that despite Remake's ending, and the promise that Rebirth will have further mysteries, it is somehow technically the same story.

Now I find myself agreeing with the purists who call it out. It's all very funny to me.

I don’t think Sephiroth appearing early in the game has much to do with how the president’s death was done. They could have still played it straight and it wouldn’t have changed anything about Sephiroth’s earlier appearances.

The best example of what I’m getting at is what I already wrote, that Zack is alive. They know how much fans want Aerith and Zack to live, but they also know that everybody expects their deaths. So their options are:

A. Play it straight
B. Happy ending
C. Elevate the tragedy

The worst outcome to me would be a happy ending, but I don’t think they’re going there. Based on Remake, seems to me they want to take the feelings of the OG to new heights.

But nostalgia bait can only go so far. Just as the original FF7 was a fresh and new experience, the remake sets out to be the same. Sometimes that means giving people something they haven’t seen, just as they hadn’t seen the OG prior.

One thing I wanted to note on the trailer's opening line "I'm feeling every bullet":

What Zack says in the Japanese trailer is different. TurqouiseHammer suggested that the line could be translated as "The wind sure was blowing" or "I guess that was quite a gust" as the bullet approaches his head.

This would make it seem like the Whispers were protecting Zack, or being controlled to do so. But I disagree. I think the Whispers were doing their usual job and stopped the bullet so that he could live long enough to pass the Buster Sword to Cloud. However, with the Whispers timely defeat, Zack survives. But the event gives him an inkling that something is amiss.

This is what bonds Zack and Biggs. Both feel like they were destined to die, yet they somehow survived. And due to this strange similarity, they begin working together.

With that said, here's my timeline of events for the Terrier Stamp world:

- Due to currently unknown circumstances, the events of Final Fantasy VII kick-off without Cloud

- The Sector 7 plate drops, Marlene is left with Elmyra

- A hurricane (i.e., the Whispers) strike Midgar as Aerith, Tifa, Barret, and Red XIII flee from the Shinra Building. The Whispers do this to prevent their escape and realign events

- Due to our actions in Remake, the Whispers are defeated, saving Zack from the Shinra Army in the outskirts of Midgar. At the same time, Biggs wakes up from his injuries from the S7 platefall

- Zack enters the Sector 5 slums and leaves Cloud with Kyrie. He freshens up

- Zack visits Aerith's church to find a gathering of displaced and injured people. All victims of the hurricane

- Zack visits Elmyra where he meets Marlene. He leaves her house with Cloud

- Later, Zack meets Biggs who, like Zack, also feels like he should've died

Sorry, I didn't mean the impaling still happened. I meant they still introduced Sephiroth in a different way and passed on that "iconic" introduction.
