I agree that both parents were crappy. XD Poor Tidus really wasn't loved as a kid. Shit, now I almost feel bad for hating him.

Honestly, I can understand how Tidus would feel a bit resentful over his father, but I think both him and his dad had some serious communication issues. Jecht was such a hard, masculine, blitzball badass that he unfortunately lost his...ability to show affection outwardly towards his son. He loved Tidus very much, but he just couldn't....show it in terms of actually just sitting down, patting him on the head, or just giving a hug. He always wanted Tidus to surpass him and be the best.

Likewise, Tidus never tried to understand or think about why Jecht pushed him so hard, and wanted Tidus to see him as a rival. Tidus was so quick to judge and think Jecht hated him or didn't give a shit, that he missed the obvious.

Despite how ones a whiner, and the other's a macho monster, they're both surprisingly similar. They both can't quite understand or express themselves properly. Which made their final confrontation and ending, all the more touching.

Yeah I can't blame Tidus for being a little sore. I was being mostly facetious about my criticism as such. I really do like Jecht though, so I tend to give him a pass about his faults.

However it really is hilarious how similar the two are.

I just realized that for all the whining that Tidus does about his dat ("boo hoo, my dad is a famous blitzball player, pimp of the year, and manly badass and I get to live in wealth and luxury because of his talent MY LIFE'S SO BAD"), it's his mother that's actually the shitty parent.

"Wah, my husband vanished at sea so I'm gonna be sad and die instead of raising my kid. Also I completely ignored my kid while he was alive too!". Suck it up, bitch.

I have the same complaint. Unfortunately for me, the relationship between Tidus and Jecht is really the best thing about FFX.

I have ALWAYS thought people gave Tidus such a hard time when he had EVERY right to be the way he was. Kinda like how people say Cloud's emo and has no reason to feel the way he does.

Everyone always says how they love seeing "real," "flawed" heroes, and then bitch when they get one.

I felt the story with Tidus' mother was lacking as well, I mean seriously? Didn't she just... well moved on and tried to raise Tidus herself? And I know Tidus sounds like he's on crack when he was a kid (due to bad voice acting) but that's still no excuse to off her because Jecht left for good or something like that. They should've developed her a little more to make it more believable.

Nope. She literally gave up and died of sadness, therefore leaving her preteen kid an orphan.

It's not unnecessarily unrealistic, but it's still pathetic and an example of horrible parenting. Jecht had more of a hand in Tidus development than his mother ever did.

edit: The only thing Tidus got from his mother was partially her looks, beyond that, not a shred of parenting from her.

And Mog, you're right, but Tidus blamed Jecht for what happened to his mother by disappearing. But the fact that Jecht was the better parent is just another one of those FF ironies

No, but like I said, people do in fact die from not wanting to live anymore and depression related ailments. You have to be REALLY depressed, but it's medically possible and well documented.
