Final Fantasy IX appreciation thread

So I'm piecing together my FF9 OST Review which will be just as in-depth as my FF7 one and I have to say the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal. Yes, I know, Jason Tandro is talking about FF music again but seriously this game is only just barely beaten out by FF6 for my favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack and it has some of the most powerful pieces in the game.

Like what I consider to be the most technically perfect town theme:

One of my favorite character themes of all time:

An incredible score to accompany what I consider the best final dungeon in the series (depending on which day you ask me)"

Oh and do I even need to bring up You're Not Alone?

Lastly the main theme is probably my personal favorite of the main themes of the series including FF6 because it is straight out of the rennaisance straight with the pan flute and horns and the medieval technique of dual fifths which are an 18th century music theory no-no... ugh so good!

Yeah I need to stop now before I give away my whole review in text form but my god, so much amazing...

I remember actually stopping the story progression to just sit and listen to 'you're not alone' the first time I heard it. And every theme that plays when Beatrix is around is awesome.

Ain't never beat Ozma or impressed all hundred nobles (96 is my best), but I love that game.

I did. Lol. It was this one and the link they cited was the second one in my OP... But yes, it's pretty work; I believe there were even YT vids uploaded by one of the scant few westerners who got to do art for FFIX with animated HD versions of the backgrounds running.

Now digging that up, that would be huge.

Here's something that went unnoticed for 10 years, an FFIX theme was planned for KHII, but went unused. Nobody found this until now because it had no instruments to play. The music in those games are basically midis with a soundfont, and if no sounds exist...it can't be played.

It's unknown exactly which track this is since it's not labeled, and that theme is used in lots of places in FFIX. I'm not sure if any tracks using that melody are related to Vivi though.

Heya guys, I won't read this thread from the start till I finish IX, I've wanted to see if anybody else is having a glitch issue the same as I, I've just started Disc 4 and have left the Black Mage Village, now with my ship:

A) When I disembark.... the game cracks the shits and basically is non responsive, the disc starts to spin, stops, clicks and rinse and repeat.... I then lifted the lid, wiped the disc, closed the lid & she starts to come back to life about 20 seconds later....

B) When I want to go back to Treno to deal with more Stellazio Coins.... the continent is UNDER WATER!!!! My chocobo is just standing in the middle of the ocean.... now that can not be right!!!

C) Am I doomed in regards to doing extra awesome fluff and just have to try get back to the Lifa Tree and finish the story or what in the world can I do so I can continue my journey?!

Hope someone can help or has any idea why this is going on.

All symptoms of a scratched disc sounds like :/. That or a problem with the laser.

I had an issue when I had a hard copy of the game.

Battles in the second to last dungeon failed to load due to a scratched 4th disc. Once I got the digital version everything was fine.

Just get a new copy or get the digital version off the PSN store.

Cheers guys, I was soooo shattered!!! I had all the Stellazio coins and all, I wanted to get some extra stuff done Missed out big time!!

I am, though, very happy to report that I was able to get into the Lifa Tree and continue the story. Also got all the way through to Necron and kicked his overlord ass 1st time round!!!

What a rush!!!

I took some snaps too of particular lines that just stood out for me, I'll upload them tomorrow. It always seems the last part of the game always puts the balls to the wall and just puts it into 5th gear!! All the "what is existance" & "you are a mere step in the cycle of it all" and stuff... ooohhh heavy stuff man!

I loved the whole of the ending, especially the FMV. Now seeing as I was unable to finish up properly and get the "hammer", I need to youtube it up for the alternate/extra ending bit, but I really did love all the FMV's in this!

Peace out and I can't wait for the retrospective!! It's going to be a while, but I'm hanging!!

The amount of key items in this game from challenges is too damn high.

Did the Hippo race and got athlete queen. I'm glad by C and B keys didn't break in the process.

OHHH mannn!!! Forget about that one!!! I tried so many times to just get to like 15 and rage quit that one REAL FAST!!!

I did miss Stiltzkin once in disc 3 I think when you go back to Alexandria & the story progresses while you're playing as Vivi & you go down into the lane way theater.... I was meant to keep going through to the bell tower where one of the Moogles and Stiltzkin hang around.... I wanted that Ribbon from completing the whole "buy everything from Stiltzkin" but I was never able to finish that one off anyways... I'm going to go back and see if I can get something to work and allow me to continue with the extra stuff, I want to do more chocographs & Stellazio's and content lol I logged just under 62 hours for the play through with my main party being level 64 or so.

What to play next... what to play next... I think VI!

^I started off my FF crusade with that one.(Well after I went through VIII, which we won't talk about).
It's pretty good, best Villain in a FF game so far.

I took a break from IX today. I'm past the Card Tournament and got the Rebirth Ring. Also I'm keeping up on Stillzkin.

LOL the card tourney was pretty much the only time I played, I got lucky and kicked ass!! Kind of working out how it works and not sucking lol managed to win all rounds

LMAO Some of those extra little clips were so funny!!!!

I'm going to throw it out there.... I would argue that the main character of the game is not Zidane but Vivi. I felt a whole lot more of a connection, relevance and importance around Vivi than Zidane... Even the "metaphors" and such, along with the closing statements could very well come from Vivi's mouth than Zidane.

Any input there?

I frickin' love this game. It's biggest flaw was its slow-as-a-Tonberry battle system, and that got fixed with the new speed boost thingy.

Unfortunately, I got back into FFXIV during the wait for the Steam release.....and One Does Not Simply "stop" FFXIV once you get started.
