Wow I'm not even sure what to say. That is kind of creepy tbh. What the hale Square? How was that... necessary? O_o

They took the Tifa thing and went a step further wtf.
Why... why would you even...
I mean I'm all for sexiness and especially bikinis, but not yannow, hiding in a character's room and just spy on them and watch them jiggle or w/e wtf.

Gotta agree with this. It's just wrong..... just spying/ stalking on a girl is just creepy and disturbing and it's not funny, sexy, or cute.... it's just.... really, really, really creepy.

Though who walks around in their bedroom just wearing a bra and not much else making strange organism noises and humming a song ? Not anybody I know. xD

Also, Garnet has appeal?

No because she looks ten years old xD

character death and alternate endings

Long story short is about a man who breaks up a treaty and starts a war between four kingdoms. The guys from Suzaku are soldiers who must try at all costs to stop this man.

I'm kinda hoping a Vita release means this'll somehow be available to play on PS3 as well.

I don't see this happening, but I have to admit I would probably die and come back to life again if it did.

But yeah, I'll be more than happy with just a Vita release.

Chances are if it was on PSP in Japan, it'll be on PSP in the U.S....no need for Squeenix to cut off it's fanbase just because of a little thing like not owning a Vita...most likely it'll have features on Vita that it doesn't have on PSP, but that's about it...

Boy oh boy am I excited for this game! It looks inspired by FFVIII, and I'm sure it will in turn inspire me. I already like how it incorporates elements of Chinese mythology.

Come on S-E, localise it and ship it over to Europe already. Please.

I would buy a Vita for this game, if it were Vita only. I don't own a PSP, so I wouldn't be bitter.

Someone who went to TGS spoke to some people (including Square-Enix reps) and came away with this:

…no less than four people I talked to at TGS (both inside and outside of Square Enix) made it very clear that the English version of Type-0 is moribund, at least in its current form (again, for reasons).

Source.

EDIT: And if you're stupid like me and don't know what moribund means, Wiki says: Moribund refers to a literal or figurative state of near-death.

I did know what the word meant. Probably because we use that word often enough in Spanish.

And maybe because I'm a well-spoken chap who likes studying languages and whatnot. :monster:

It was one of those weird situations where I knew in context what it meant but just wasn't 100% sure, so I had to check it.

Going by the statement alone, the word actually creates the meaning for the whole quote. It's actually the first time that's happened to me in living memory, so I suppose I understand a little bit more just how difficult it can be for non native speakers to understand certain parts of English.

something about type-0 and how I'm not surprised.

Why should be certain parts of English difficult to understand for non-native speakrs? I mean, obviously I may make mistakes when producing stuff, probably because to some extent I may be mimicking my own language, which could end up doing some weird shit.

But in general, I found English rather "easy" to understand. (Not meaning it's a simple language, it's just that I found myself rather easily connected to it).

And also, a language-related thing; I'm not cocky nor I usually go around acting like I'm good at anything because I've never felt like I was. But with English I always thought I was so damn good that whenever I see someone who's Spanish and has a similar level, I find it spooky. Shouldn't be the case, of course, and it goes on to show how cocky I am with my English, in the end, despite there beign no real reason for it.

And just for the record, I have met people I consider to have better English than me while being Spanish.

As for Type-0... I'm sad. Looked like a really cool game, and we'll probably end up missing it :(

Alex, I always thought you were a native English speaker who just happened to live in Spain - like, maybe your whole family had moved there when you were a kid for your dad's job or something. I have never noticed you make a single idiomatic error. But obviously not! I just wish I could speak one other language as well as you and Fangu and Yop and Shademp and all these other guys speak English!

From my limited knowledge of Spanish (2 years of night school) it's a lot like English. It's more more like English than French is.

As for Type 0, it's the disappointment of Before Crisis all over again. Except that I hear Type 0 is actually a good game.

My thoughts exactly. Except I've never met someone Dutch that speaks English better then I do... But still was pretty lost on moribund. Never heard that word before.

You do know my comment about non-native English speakers wasn't directed at you right?

I just meant that in that quote, the word "moribund" dictates the meaning of the entire sentence, and if a person doesn't know what it means, the whole thing doesn't make any sense. I hadn't been in that particular situation before, so all I meant was that I might finally have gleaned a little bit of what it would be like to be learning English if it wasn't my first language, which was a strange experience.

Also, you write English incredibly well. It was the same with Fangu, I'd never have known you weren't a native speaker until you told me. All the roman languages are similar, so it would be easier for you to learn English and/or other derived languages (French, Italian, Spanish etc) and easier for me to learn those European non-English languages than it would be for say a Japanese person.

Anyway that was completely off topic, I just had to clarify.

The news that Type-0 might be dead to the west is spreading everywhere now. Kotaku and gameinformer have both done articles on it. If it's really not dead then Square might release a statement at some point.

I know I know! I was just answering to the whole idea. Don't worry, I know it wasn't directed at me :)

Thank you all by the way! I never implied I'm not good at English though (here goes my cockiness). I merely... explained my feelings, I guess. Spanish being a lot like English? I suppose I don't see it, but it's true I found English a lot less difficult than German, for instance. And I have nothing to be proud, languages are just my thing, it seems, because I like learning them and all that.

And forgive me for what I'm going to say (I've had people get mad at this opinion of mine) but it's a cultural thing. People from the UK, USA, Australia, etc. do not usually think learning a foreign language is useful. It may be "cool" or "interesting", but never really useful. Not in all cases of course, but it's a widespread feeling, and therefore education was never so focused on languages (it's changing now though). Although neither was it in Spain... I guess I'm just lucky to be bilingual, which made me more sensitive to foreign languages in general.

Now going back to Type 0, the difference I see is that Before Crisis was mobile phone, while Type 0 is actually a PSP game! A freaking Final Fantasy game for the PSP, and we won't see it outside of Japan. I think it's rather ridiculous.

Most European languages are all derived from the same place. I've just looked it up, and for some reason I assumed that English was included, but it's not. Apparently English is derived from Anglo-Frisian, which is hilarious because that's where Yop is from and it's such a random niche for English to be related to? We're also in the wider bracket of "West Germanic".

Anyway, I was referring to the romance languages, of which French, Italian, Spanish and Portugese are all rather similar, as I'm sure you're aware. Just similarities in some words etc. I guess I thought because we share some words the languages were similar, but there's probably been cross-talk through the centuries since the countries are so close. The main difference is how guttural germanic languages are when spoken compared with the romance languages.

Anyway I'm shutting up about this now XD.

To be fair, I never really saw Type-0 being released on PSP outside Japan so late in the console's cycle, but I really was expecting a re-release on the Vita or something. Furthermore, why hasn't Crisis Core been released on PSN? It was their most successful title in the west on PSP, what gives? Makes no sense.

Alex Strife

Ex-SOLDIER
: There used to be a theoretical language (because as far as I know there's no record of it, but theory points towards it) that was called Indoeuropean. That language would be the point of origin for most European languages as well as the border between Europe and Asia. From there on, various languages spawned. Among them, we can find Latin, which is the mother of romance languages (French, Italian, Portuguese, Romansh, Spanish and Catalan). All of these sharing a common origin, of course, while English, German and Dutch share a different origin. However, there is of course a lot of cross-information, which is the reason why some words in English come from French and some Spanish words come from English and some words simply have a common origin despite the fact they're not from the same "language family", so to speak.

Sorry if I sound cocky, overconfident or whatever. It's just that this is one of the very few things that I actually know pretty well, and I'm always glad to explain stuff to others (I'm a teacher too, besides being a journalist, remember?). :)

At first I thought Type-0 would come out 3 or 4 months after Japan, in which case a PSP release wasn't so far-fetched. But after it became clear it wasn't going to happen, I absolutely expected a PS Vita release. I hope it'll end up happening, even if really late!

Also, Square-Enix rarely makes sense these days.

The language discussion may be technically off-topic, but that's all we have since Square Enix sucks so bad these days they can't even localize actual unique games to other countries. It's not just International/Final Mix versions, Ultimanias and other text-based stuff anymore.

Really lowers one's hopes for seeing the HD upgrade of FFX elsewhere, doesn't it? Of course, I doubt it will even get made at this point.

Wait, "International"? Maybe the language discussion is right on-topic after all. :awesome:

Speaking of which, I don't know why English is often classified as an Indo-European language alongside German and Russian. Sure, it has has heavy roots in the Germanic dialects, but by the time we get to Middle English, much has been assimilated from Latin (the common tongue for communication across Europe for kind of a long time) and Norman-French. Modern English owes as much to those as it does West Germanic.

I don't know what you would file a combination between Indo-European and Romance influence under, but "Indo-European" alone seems to paint only half a picture.

::also kind of a language nut over here::

Well, actually Indo-European comes before Latin. Therefore, both are compatible.

Indo-European "gave birth" to Latin among other languages. So English would have as much Romance influence as it has West Germanic influence.

We're going so off-topic, but there's nothing to discuss about Type-0, unfortunately!
