I think the chances are good of my being there, but I'm not 100% certain.
Anyway, I played Chapter 1 last night. I'm mostly looking forward to so many people who have passed over this game finally experiencing it. The story is more straightforward, more telegraphed, but in a way it's refreshing to have such a classic high fantasy adventure. And a few of the characters really do manage to grow on you. Especially as you personalize them with Job abilities. Also the music's freakin awesome. A lot of the best dungeon music in the series comes from this game, and that was on display even in the first chapter.
Trying to go in a slightly different route in terms of the characters' archetypes, I made Bartz a White Mage, Lenna a Monk, Galuf a Black Mage, and Faris a Knight. (I usually make Faris my badass as Faris' my favorite, but taking a different direction with the other three.)

Jobs haven't changed:
Bartz: White Mage
Lenna: Monk
Galuf: Black Mage
Faris: Knight
So far so good. Lenna looks cool as a Monk.
Obviously I've played the game before, but the first time I played it I did and didn't see it coming. When I originally saw Faris I thought she was a girl, but then people referred to Faris as "he" and I took it as fact. I had thought Ramza was a girl before and was corrected by the game, also Kuja, so I didn't question it much.
Magissa was tough, but I was pleased to discover that Silence worked on her, which was a huge help.

Discussion: What did you think of the character reveal in this chapter, and did you see it coming? One of my feelings about this game is that the way its story is told isn't very nuanced; as The Engineer wrote above, things are played pretty straight. Do you agree, based on what you've seen so far? The boss on North Mountain is probably the toughest you've faced up to this point - did you have any difficulties?
It would be nice if people shared their job setups when they write their reports but I'm not going to keep asking about it.
Having played through the game before (and as we discussed at length it's a paperthin disguise anyway), it did not surprise me. The game is pretty simple but I forgot that you get flashbacksto Bartz's childhood so early on, he's not quite as simple a character as Dissidia would have you think.
My job set is Bartz: Blue Mage, Lenne: Warrior, Galuf: Black Mage, Faris: Thief, which made Siren and especially Magissa quite a challenge. I think going forward I'll turn Bartz into a Monk as Blue Mage turns out to just a lot of work.

I think it was Hq4x or something? One of the higher numbers, I'll check it when I can. You should play around with the filters and see if there's one you like, I'll probably change it next time XD.

-This game seems kind of cute. It was pretty straight forward and you find your party fairly quickly, but I like it so far.
-It is my first time playing, but I'm not quite sure what to expect. This story seems a lot more light-hearted than other FF's so probably not anything too overly dark.
Currently about half way through with chapter two. I'll probably finish it later.

Aside: It was really nice hanging out in the Twitch chat, listening to everyone whilst Lex played through both chapters. That was a lot of fun, and hopefully I can jump on and watch again next weekend.
Though the story does leave a lot to be desired at this point - the Faris reveal could be seen coming a mile away (and I remember spotting it back on my first ever playthrough way back when) - the music however is one area that the game does excel at. It's very good. My favourite piece at the moment has to be the overworld theme.
Losing Syldra didn't have much of an impact because I felt like I barely knew her (though that is one backstory with Faris I'd love to see) and it's quickly becoming a trend of this game of abandoning your animal companions and vehicles, lol. First Boko, then Syldra. I don't have high hopes for Hirryu!
The encounter on North Mountain was tough. He hit extremely hard and I was forced to use a Phoenix Down, but I managed to scrape through without a game over.

I’ve said it before in the other thread about not remembering a lot from the first time I played this game other than the fact that I enjoyed it. However, as I've been playing a lot of stuff has been coming back to me. As several people have pointed out so far, FFV has a lighter atmosphere compared to other FFs. The first time I played I went in not expecting much (having been disappointed with FFI and FFII) but ended up loving the characters and their often silly way of phrasing things such as: "Leave her alone, you degenerate, lecherous, piratey... pirate!"
The thing I’m most looking forward to is getting my hands on all the jobs and getting to
. I have a lot of plans for my jobs; the first being to make sure everyone but Bartz learns Blue Mage ‘Learning’ ability.

I went into FFV being spoiled on the big reveal the first time thanks to a big brother who likes to spoil things for me (coughAerith). And yes the story is played pretty straight but I kinda like it that way. Reminds me of simpler days back in my gaming youth.
I haven’t had any trouble with any of the bosses so far. I may be a tad over-levelled to be honest. I tend to swap jobs quite a bit so that I have access to more abilities. At the moment I have:
Bartz as Monk
Previous Jobs: None
Lenna as White Mage
Previous Jobs: Blue Mage, Black Mage
Galuf as Blue Mage
Previous Jobs: Blue Mage, Black Mage, White Mage
Faris as Thief

This was such a fun chapter! I really liked it
I thought it was really weird that Faris's sprite had boobs from the start and just wondered if I was seeing things but then they dropped so many hints and stuff that it wasn't a huge surprise come the Big Reveal. I've never played before so I have no idea what happens but I sort of was expecting them to reveal something a bit different but I guess we'll have to wait for that?
The story does seem pretty simple but in a nice way, like it's pretty pleasant to play and that can be quite refreshing
The North Mountain boss was ok, I'm not that good so I just keep hitting things until they die and that seemed to work pretty well. Honestly the boss I've struggled with the most was the first one, that raptor thing, cos I didn't pay attention at all and killed everyone the first time haha oops.
