Final Fantasy Versus XIII

All I get out of that article is that there is a date set for some kind of reveal, not even specific to Versus. It just makes me feel like he's talking about revealing something at E3, which we already knew Square is going to do.

Sorry, I don't mean to be cynical or pessimistic, just honest opinions from what I interpreted in the article.

This was in response to being asked about Versus specifically though.

Anyway. "Wait", he says...do I look like a waiter?

Q: I’ve been excitedly waiting for any news regarding Final Fantasy Versus XIII. When will we be hearing more?

Nomura: Any information about Versus is very… sensitive, even within the company. We’ve been quiet about it for the past year, but the day of being able to remove its information ban has already been decided, and we’re currently preparing for that day. When that time comes, we’ll also reveal our reason for the delay of any form of announcement.

(source is the link above)

So, really, we still have no idea when this announcement will be made, nor do we actually know what it will cover. Release date? Renaming? Classic Square.

I just think it's funny for all the complaining the west does about this game, it only took 1 random caller in Japan to make Square Enix go 'Oh yeah, we really should get back on that, huh.'

I'll be honest here.

I think a lot of things are happening around Versus. Probably renaming, which may bring a lot of changes to what was planned for the game.

It is possible that what we were familiar with, the "FF Versus XIII" concept will never be released and will have been turned into FFXV instead. But let's take this seriously for a moment, will we?

What would that mean? Would they simply change the name like what they did with Agito? I think it's not the case. It's a "main numbered game" and they're aware of how important those are, even when they have dozens of other games. So they must have done something about it. Maybe even the very basics of the game have been changed.

And if those have to be changed, you can't simply announce a name change with no other changes. Of course, it's not like not giving any information at all is much better. But at least, I imagine when they announce the name change (which should be the reason why they've been quiet about it) they will have already worked enough to, at least, be back on track.

And I'll put on my tinfoil hat. Expect a release date between june 2014 and june 2015!

As long as I get to play a Final Fantasy where you run around urban pseudo Japan at night, I'm good.

Yes, I'm aware of Persona and Devil Summoner

From what little was shown through the years, they can basically do anything at this point and say that it's been planned this whole time. On the other hand, themes are so ambiguous, they can probably keep whatever relation the game had to XIII and still call it separate.

In all honesty, I don't think they were ahead enough in production to really have a strong connection to the XIII mythos.

Sure, things can be called l'cie and fal'cie but... eh. They could have other names too and it'd be the same.

You know, as disappointed as I was at one point waiting for this game, I'm now much more bothered by the lack of a release for "The Last Guardian," which we've been waiting for nearly as long (May 2006 for Versus; May 2007 brought the first rumors of Team Ico working on a new game).

I'd rather have the latter, but have kind of stopped believing either is ever coming out.

Still yet to play the ICO games, if I'm not accepted for an internship I've got a summer list of stuff to play.
Currently I'm going by Wikipedia's videogame-art list which includes both ICO games.

I'm not sure what dubious journalism decided on this at so early a stage, but I'm sure they're all good.

Still convinced Versus is a figment of Nomura's imagination. Nothing we've been shown yet has provided me any evidence to believe otherwise.

By the time it comes out, we'll be able to jack into the Matrix and create our own Versus XIII.

Please. If we could jack into the matrix FF versus XIII would still never be made because everybody would be busy with all the virtual porn.

I think SE needs to start announcing games only when they're actually close to finishing them, rather than before they've even started development. At this rate we'll have KH3 already by the time Versus comes out.

And regarding the ICO games, I've only played Shadow of the Colossus.

It used to be that I wanted to make a game that could compete with Final Fantasy games or could surpass them in quality.

Now it doesn't seem as high a wall to climb as it used to.
