Well I hope you didn't take more offense than I'm sure my member did when you said no one (including you) gives a shit about ideas coming from my URPG.
Yeah, that did seem a little more hypocritical than I would have liked. That would be my bad, and I should have chosen my words more carefully.
What I should have said is that new concepts created by an individual based on a
fan-developed world originating from
someone else's intellectual property, has very little chance of being plagiarised by a group of people who have a much greater preference to strive to create their
own worlds and concepts from scratch.
I can't see much evidence that this place is alive or even wants to be around.
There was a metric fuckton of drama when the first RP was shut down, and if the RP section didn't want to be around the whole thing would have disappeared several months ago. Compared to that, this spamming problem is almost a non-issue.
It doesn't make it any more tragic, though. I am simply glad you weren't around to see it.
The RP section is probably never going to take off if URPGs are looked down on and people can only really go with the one RPG that's up. But I wish this site the best of luck, and it was nice seeing you again Satsu, though I doubt you'll be joining us. I'm sorry for anyone who might have been interested in the idea, but if you do wish to join us on another site please send me an IM. Anyways, it was a... pleasure being here
The spamming was most definitely indiscriminate, as I'll have mentioned earlier and will always continue to mention. There was no ill-will directed towards anyone in the forums whatsoever, and I have to remind those who don't follow
Destrillians that spamming went on over in that thread as well.
It's a pity that this has to be a side-effect of a little playing around, because to be honest we really have no intention of looking down on
any decent, fun RP whether original or unoriginal. If they really wanted to haze you out of the RP section, they would have done it in the
actual RP thread instead of just the Discussion.
I'm glad some of the players in this RP see a little differently, but I suppose it makes no difference now. I joined for something a little more casual and easy-going I could jump right into, something I could play on this forums that wasn't Destrillians. This was a perfect diversion from the extremely
heavy, labor intensive RPing going on, which brings me to this:
I mean, c'mon, TWO DAYS. What's wrong with everyone, you have time to post here but not in the RP?
You have to understand one thing - the other RP is an entirely different bag of tricks which you can't compare with. The latest post is around
1,600 words. The largest post to date in Destrillians is
5,520 words. As of now, out of 81 posts, only
9 of them have been under 1,000 words. Collectively, the 12 members in that 1 RP aren't even finished with the 2nd story arc and
there's enough to fill a decently-sized novel.
I personally believe numbers of members or numbers of posts or frequency of posts are absolutely useless when describing the quality of an RP, but if you want, there's a few figures to chew on.
We run
Skype chats,
MSN chats, often group chats that can draw on for
hours. We simply socialise at times, but sometimes these conversations are just to
clarify what's going on in the story and just to
decide the next few posts and course of action. We offer "soundtracks" for listening to while creating RP posts, we draw fanart and place it in our sigs and avatars. We are a small, extremely tight-knit community within one RP.
This is a level of dedication that I have rarely seen in other forums. If you ask any of them, they will tell you it will be a cold day in hell when this section dies.
As much as I respect Shikaru-Kuto and love to RP in the worlds he makes for us, this is something he failed to see, and something which started up so much of the hatred and flaming. Part of the reason why there was so much overreaction was that the RPers felt insulted after putting so much of their time and love into it and being told that their efforts weren't worth very much.
Admittedly, it brings back a bit of hypocrisy over "taking the internet too seriously", but everyone has their vices.
This is not RPing that can be maintained every two days. With the introduction of 2 new RPGs in this section (aside from this one) everyone is doing their best. But their best may be different from what you consider to be "best".
Sadly, this is the vicious cycle that happens when this RP leaves. It's essentially remaining the same people from Destrillians with another few from the forums, but this will more likely than not decrease rate of posting in RPs overall. If this RP had stayed and "endured" something this trivial (yes, stfu Mumble), then perhaps you yourselves could have turned this around.
I am very disappointed that it has come to this. I will probably not join a different website to RP this, but I am most definitely awaiting the restart for the Shinra Alchemists, Slader. I am totally in for that.
