Back to Jihl:

I was seriously hoping Barthandelus would come out of nowhere and finish her off. Seriously. >_>

Oh yeah, I see what's meant by her voice sounding different. I do wonder if they got someone else to her voice.

If you have problems killing all of them like I did, then just focus on the pscicom warderns and then attack Jihl. They are the ones that heal her after she sacrifices them so those are the ones you really have to worry about. They're really easy to stagger and easy to kill so dealing with them quickly should be easy.

Ah! So they are the ones restoring her HP. I didn't figure that one out.

IDK about the method Splintered mentioned but for me I always just focus on poisoning and staggering her. It's pretty easy, at least.

I found if you just focus on her, get her chain gauge up and staggering her, is the way to go. With a good few doses of healing. Grimoire Hat comes in handy.

@shiala: poison is the best but FUCK it takes so long to actually debuff her i get so mad

Stagger Jihl, and she is easy to poison. And it sticks afterwards, too.

How many guys does she bring to that fight?!? :O

An Azure Behemoth (magic only), two PSICOM agents, and two or three Night(something) Pumas.

And I got her crystal too. She's a
saboteur
. I got her crystal the third or fourth time through.

Thanks guys. ^_^

I heard poison works on her but I get so irritated with how hard it is to poison everyone that I don't even try. I guess it's because they made poison so OP'd in XIII they had to make it harder to stick? Either way, it frustrates me so much that I don't even try to SAB enemies with it anymore. Even Yomi, I'm at the point where I just throw on deshell+imperill and then stagger-kill.

That said I finally got Noel's ATB +50% weapon from the Invincible. I've been trying for freaking weeks, it has the worst drop rate ever. Which is weird because I got, like, ten of Serah's ATB 50% weapon Indrait

I finally redeemed my Omega boss battle DLC (from preordering from amazon). He wiped the ground with my face the first couple of times but finally I 5 starred him. I've done the battle many times but haven't gotten the crystal yet. Also DL the Lightning/Amodar DLC, 5 starred it the first time but the second time was ridiculous. I tried taking Lightning down first and I think that was my big mistake. Fought it a couple more times, still didn't get any crystals. Today has not been my day for crystals. The hell.

Y'know, that Roman myth about the twin brothers who founded Rome and one ended up killing the other?

idk I just found the reference kinda funny :sadpanda:

So I haven't actually touched XIII-2 since the Lightning/Amodar DLC. Will be looking into the rest of what's been released this week.

However, tell me this... are any of the new characters saboteurs synergists? And if so... do they have haste? I hate not being able to get that in this game. Haste would perhaps prompt another playthrough.

sabs don't have haste, syns do
jihl is a sab
sazh is the only syn and he doesn't have haste as far as i know

but once you have the clockstopper fragment haste is a complete moot point

Oops. See it's been that long. I fixed it now ^_^

I know but listening to them all squeak just pisses me off. It's really good for farming though. I tend to go off games for a while once I've got the platinum.

Yes. I have no idea why it took so damn long, I even had durable catalogue's on both Serah and Noel just in case they item collector stacked (still not sure).

@haste discussion, pretty sure no syns have haste. Even without clockstoper, romulus and remus/indriat are actually faster than haste anyway. Their stats aren't as great but in the long run, permanent haste, wohoo. Or you could try durable hermes shoes which casts haste on you at the very beginning of battle, moot for grinding but not bad if you want to fight a boss that you can't get a preemptive on.

tbh, I didn't get the jihl fight for her crystal, I got a decent sab already, I just got her because I heard her battle was hard. I am actually missing XIII's difficulty level.

I got Jihl and the Lightning/Amoda fight, saving the rest of my moneys for Ultros on Tuesday.

Beat Light and Amoda four times (finishing off Amoda last one time, and Light three). Two of those accessories Light drops, no crystal. Am sensing another Omega-style 'forget it you'll never get me' lack of crystals.

I got about half way through the Jihl fight before I just gave up :sadpanda: I managed to stagger and poison her once, but man that was hard. Then poison wore off. I had to keep switching between attacking and healing, and Great Wall for when she did Sadistic Drive, but a bunch of times her chain gauge reset because I left it too long without attacking. I got close, down to about 120000-300000 HP? But then I was so focused on healing and chaining Jihl that I forgot about the PSICOM guys she summons and then she's back to full health :sadpanda: At that point I was down to like 10-20 potions, which I was using as my healing method, so I just. Decided to try the Light/Adoma fight (which I won first time yay). I probably need a new strategy/weapons (used the fragment ones)/monsters (Odin/silver chocobo/purple chocobo). I think the ATB speed weapons would help out, but I don't know if the chain ones would help too.

I haven't done any of the DLC battles so you may well already be using this but have you gotten the Monster Collector Fragment skill or whatever it's called?

The one that ups the crystal drop rate? Yeah, that ought to be on unless I did something daft and turned it off.

I got the Light/Amodar DLC the day it came out and fought and won a total of 10 times in the space of two days without getting either of their crystals. They have a horrendous drop rate (like 7% or something I believe).

I still don't have them. I cba with it, i'll come back later at some point.

EDIT: This was with the monster collector fragment skill activated.

I must be stupidly lucky or something. I got Amador my second drop and Lightning my fifth~seventh. Jihl my first.

Maybe kill them with a feral link?

I have fought Omega I don't want to know how many times, no crystal. I fought Lightning/Amodar less times, also no crystals. I don't have the monster collector fragment skill, and in order to get it, don't you have to get all of the fragments from the Vile Peaks areas? I haven't opened any of those areas yet, and I think one of the gates requires a Wild Artefact, right? If that's the case, I'm royally screwed, because the only place left in the game for me to get one is at Serendipity (buying it) and I have...8,000 gil right now. So. Hm.

Also freaking Yomi! :rage:

Killing enemies with a feral link doesn't improve success rate of obtaining monster crystals. There's one enemy that it does have some sort of effect on but I can't remember which one. This is from the official guide.

Yeah most people are the same as you though Splintered, I remember reading these threads when I first got it and wondering why I was so bloody unlucky. I just need to keep trying, but cba at the moment ^_^

Haven't really touched XIII-2 since that DLC came out.

ultros

buy straight away

inject it right into my veins

If I had advice from fighting them once and losing, it's to focus on taking down Typhon first. Even if you manage to take down Ultros' HP it will stay at 1 until Typhon fully heals him. The trouble is getting Typhon's HP down, since he is usually buffed by Ultros and has no weaknesses. But he does have a state where he is completely debuffed and won't attack, which lasts about four turns? while Ultros stops attacking to heal him. But once he's down to under half his max life, Typhon starts using the fire ball attack which is what got me.

I think I need elixirs and lots of them, also phoenix bloods :sadpanda:

If you get their crystals,
Ultros is an enhancer, and Typhon an attacker. Ultros also drops two of the fruit items (juicy and strange), Typhon just gives some monster crystarium ones. boo you suck.

yay i get to talk about dlc on time for a change :sadpanda:

There is actually a different trick to getting Ultros' crystal, not like the norm.

The battle ends with a Cinematic Action sequence, which if you input correctly gets you Ultros' crystal. I assume Typhon is gained as normal, but from my zero star battle and the ridiculous drop rates I don't think I ever had a chance. But you don't really need to do anything to Ultros once Typhon arrives? Once you beat Typhon the battle ends.

I wish there was more like that, instead of the normal method of disappointment and heartbreak :sadpanda:

Also having incredible amounts of trouble with this one. Even when Typhon is covered with debuffs I barely take any HP off of him :( I think I really need better weapons, but I'm missing so many components for the next level of weapons and I don't even know where to start looking for them. Blugh.

When I played it a second time, I realised Typhon actually had 3 million HP. So it is a long fight if you can't take him down fast.

Team: Odin/purple chocobo/silver chocobo

Paradigms:
BLA BLA ATT
ATT X3
JAM X2 ENH (didn't use this one, but you can poison Ultros and Typhon might waste a turn)
ENH X3
DEF X3
HLR X2 DEF

Equipment:
Highest chain bonus weapons you have (I had lv.5 for Noel and lv.3 for Serah)
Grimoire Hat (for the potion bonus)
DLC Goddess accessory set (for combo ability for additional potion boost, and also has attack/magic increasers)
Maybe that Blaster role bonus one if you have it?

The first part with Ultros, it doesn't matter. Just beat him up.

When Typhon turns up, you can poison Ultros like the libra screen suggests. Then just focus on chaining Typhon, using Great Wall when he does the bigger attacks. The hard part is when they put stop on you, then you're stuck removing that. Maybe Unicorn Horns?

If you can get his chain up while he's still attacking, then when he's on his down phase you can probably stagger him then. If you can use Serah and Noel's special skills efficiently, that might be useful :sadpanda: I tried to get the stagger up to 999% then ATKx3 (hopefully getting the powerful strike when stagger ends). Once he's half way down and starts using Fire Ball, Great Wall is really important to guard. Maybe try buffing your team while you're working on the chain gauge?

Maybe paying attention to Ultros would help out, but I was working under the assumption that I would need to finish him off separately when Typhon was gone.

But using that, it should work even if it doesn't go 5-star well? For Ultros at least. Just hope you get the quick time sequence at the end right to get Ulty's crystal.
