My first time fire hooping!

OMH you guys it felt so awesome. The sound of the fire was like a jet engine going round and round. I’d been waiting a whole year to try this, having never worked with fire before. I wasn’t prepared for how wonderful and powerful it felt and how scared I wasn’t.

2. Damn Those Turks! (Turks’ Theme) from Voices of the Lifestream



The second time I was braver and tried a few more tricks, although the surprise dog scared me. She looked so flammable. Turks, yo.

Fire! Fire! Thanks for sharing. I laughed a bit when I heard the girl with the NC accent at the beginning of the second video. Reminded me of running through the woods with torches with friends when I was young.

Wow!! I knew you were into your hula hooping but I never imagined you were this good!! That is so cool. Especially the second video - I love it! lol at that one light refusing to go out, that looked so good :lol:

I can't hula hoop to save my life, if I did this me and everyone in a 2 mile radius would die horribly in a firey inferno :O

Kassi, how do you avoid burning your skin and setting yourself on fire?
(I've always wanted to ask that of somebody who does fancy fire stunts.)

Practice an awful lot with the tool (hoop, staff, poi) unlit. A lot a lot a lot. The more you practice and improve, the safer it gets -- and I find imagining the hoop on fire while I'm practicing helps me recognize the limitations of tricks or my skill with them beforehand.

Non-synthetic clothes. Anything synthetic might melt and attach to the skin. Wetting hair and keeping it tied firmly under a non-synthetic cloth.

There's fire safety protocols, too, like having a source of running water, making sure the ground is free of really dry grass or leaves, a spotter person with a fire blanket watching at all times to say 'DROP' if the person does catch fire, keeping the fuel station away from the performance area. Spinning the excess fuel off before lighting the tool. Going slow. Not panicking if the tool drops. Not spinning when one is tired, or under the influence of anything.

Also I found it helped to be okay with the idea of getting burned. I always take burn treatment stuff in case. I did get a light burn on my wrist during 'Speed Limit' this time, but it was so very light, didn't hurt at the time and doesn't hurt now. It was like a flame kiss, to let me know I'd reached the limit of my current skill level. I wear it with a bit of silly pride for daring to reach my limit, as hokey as that sounds.

Could you just make a video for every FF song while firehooping? That would be great and not asking you to do much at all, kthx :desu:
