Fine. My opinions:
I don't hate Denzel, but there was really entirely too much Denzel. Yes, if one just watches the movie as it was, there truly was no explanation regarding this child and how he came to be in Cloud and Tifa's care; while explanations are great, I think it was a tad overkill. He was a child with Geostigma who came across Cloud's bike and in inflicted pain, hunger and curiosity called Tifa, then collapsed and Cloud came upon him, in which then he took him to Seventh Heaven. Gotcha. While the flashback on the scene of the trauma of the destruction of Sector Seven was executed nicely, I think it only served to have people asking more questions about him, in which I guess could be a plot by SE to have those people read the On the Way to a Smile stories... In other words, I think it was too much information.
The truck scene with the kids. The purpose of this was? I just don't think it really needed to be there. AC served the point well with having the kids pile onto the bed of the truck, and then give a small scene where Yazoo smiles, humphs and walks away. I think we could understand Denzel was in a bad predicament, same with the other children afflicted with Geostigma/are orphans (as I would think they are more vulnerable).
The Moogle girl is cute, and it's nice to see her have more of a role. I don't think this was a bad addition. Now this is really another part of the movie that irked me, but the end was too sugary sweet (everyone running, hand in hand towards the church.) I'm sorry, while I do like good deeds and positive winning out over negative, that part was just too sweet for me. First Aerith's now got goddess powers to heal Midgar's Edge/the world (which is yet another point, but that was in AC), and then a scene like fairies running through the forest... No. I just didn't like it. Sometimes I love to see fairies running through the forest - just not in that movie, not how it was portrayed.
What got me about the added fight scene between the Turks and Yazoo and Loz is the feats performed. Okay, yes, Sephiroth and Cloud flying through the air and clashing swords, knocking down buildings with a swipe of the blade, things of that nature - it's along the same lines; but, I personally could handle a little bit of gravity defying feats. The addition of the Turks battling it out with the two SHM, it was too much gravity defying feats - in other words, I felt it got ridiculous.
The scene where Kadaj stops Marlene from escaping is cool. Loz kissing the materia is freaky. All the more close ups of the SHM made me think of documentaries regarding psychopaths. I realize the three are mentally unstable (Kadaj more so), as Sephiroth is, but... I always got an unsteady feeling when it came to all the closeups between those three and Sephiroth with anyone. Boundaries?! (Not saying killing, kid napping and the like fails to cross boundaries, too.)
I did like the new opening showing more of Midgar's Edge. I think that was fitting.
Which leads me to the last point I think I'm going to make for this thread: the name changes. Little detail? Perhaps. I just like to have things fleshed out before anything official is published. Perhaps it goes to my belief in the fact that names, even just descriptions, are important. Healin' was just as good as Healen... Whatever.
Overall, it's just my thoughts on what was good and what was not so good in the second rendition of the movie. I am not hating the movie, stated again just to make sure there's understanding of my overall opinion. What Nomura and the team wanted in the movie or didn't want in the movie is what matters, and I can accept that. I still can have my thoughts on the final project.
Advent Children Complete was 'eh' to me, compared to what I thought of Advent Children when it came out.
