If you mean when all the phones ring, it's Aerith, I think. I read that somewhere. The film doesn't make it completely clear.
I think it is Aerith too, because don't they say it was big sister and I swear Marlene calls Aerith that some other time. It makes sense I mean she sent Cloud to the church after she healed him so who would know he was there besides her?

Huh? I don't know, to me it seems pretty natural that a woman would be concerned if she has a boy suddenly calling her who then starts crying.
I don't know, it just sounded weird to me when I heard it. I mean, what else would he be doing, sniffing glue or something? :P

Were you listening to this in English or in Japanese? Because in English it does sound a little weird but hey, this is the AC dub cast after all. :monster:

Anyways, Forcestealer addressed my points anyways. Just because you don't like Denzel doesn't mean he doesn't deserved to be justified and fleshed out in the narrative. To say that because they gave his hollow ass characterization and back story, that makes ACC inferior is laughable.

The movie. The purpose of this was? Really, what kind of argument is that? Was there a "point" to any of it? The truck scene is like 30 seconds. Did you have somewhere else to be?

I think all of the scenes with the kids, especially that one was to show just how full of despair and anguish the kids are. The first film never really did showcase the kids really well, considering the film was supposed to feature the kids and their pain originally. I don't see how anyone could miss the point of the kids at all. It's to show how terrible Geostigma is, and how its ruining the lives of the youth. And the fact you see one of them dead because of it is supposed to make the situation all the more heart wrenching.

Yeah this makes no sense at all. So you were unsettled by the villains...and this is bad? So essentially putting a bunch of 10-year-old kids on a drug trip is fine, but kissing a materia, man, that is over the top. What sick, twisted writers made this movie?!

Oh Forcestealer, you make me lol. :monster:

Now this is really another part of the movie that irked me, but the end was too sugary sweet (everyone running, hand in hand towards the church.) I'm sorry, while I do like good deeds and positive winning out over negative, that part was just too sweet for me. First Aerith's now got goddess powers to heal Midgar's Edge/the world (which is yet another point, but that was in AC), and then a scene like fairies running through the forest... No. I just didn't like it. Sometimes I love to see fairies running through the forest - just not in that movie, not how it was portrayed.

Considering how dark the film was, and how the children were literally dropping like flies thanks to Geostigma, I really don't see how this is "too sweet" especially given Aerith's powers and the themes of hope and redemption. And honestly, it really isn't that much different than the original ending of AC. This time we just see the children make it to the church and how they were able to find out Cloud was there. Big whoop.

I mean, you say AC was better because it didn't have such a "sweet" ending, yet this is the movie that had the same ending where all the kids jump in the pool, smile, and splash each other happily? Your point has just fallen on its face. Sounds like a lame double standard to me. UH OH! They're running hand in hand to a church!

I'd sooner criticize the fact Aerith somehow worked herself into the phone network of the city but eh, whatever. It certainly doesn't make the ending anymore sweet or saccharine than the original.

I was referring to "Are you crying?" in English. I'd love to find out a way to see ACC with the Japanese voices and subtitles. AC is like 99% better with the Japanese voices than it is with the English- it's actually clearer to me, and I just don't get how that's possible when it's Square translating it all. XD

In my mind, Square's translators have quite a few gigantic strikes against them for basically altering how various games and AC came across, starting as far back as I can remember. I know it's not an easy job, but as I've said before- you're dealing with a multi-million dollar project for a huge corporation like Square-Enix and you do a non-precise/inaccurate translation of it? Nobody proofreads/edits it in English to make sure it doesn't sound asinine?

I just can't believe nobody at Square is going, "what the hell, this isn't what we intended!". But I guess as long as people fork over the money, they don't care. I just think that the average fan who might not have access to certain information is really missing out on the full experience from a lot of Square's stuff.

I dunno, I'll just remember to stick to my cardinal rule and try to see things subbed rather than dubbed.

This, from the country that creates t-shrts with English sayings that have absolutely no logic to them, whatsoever. I don't think they are fully aware of the mistakes.

I didn't like it; gave my reasons.

You're complaints are just kinda...weird. So you get a call from your friend's phone but all you hear is a little boy. When you press him for who he is and all you hear is sniffling, you wouldn't think to ask if whoever it is is crying?

People's thoughts on my opinions are duly noted.

I believe you may have misunderstood me. I get that scene (where Denzel finds Cloud's phone), but I feel that it served the purpose of how Denzel came into the picture completely. It didn't need further explanation.

My gripe comes with the flashback to where he's seeing the news about Sector Seven. I see how it's used in the story and it does fit; just feel perhaps it's too much Denzel.

I really don't dislike Denzel, but I'm wary on which way they're taking him.

The movie. The purpose of this was? Really, what kind of argument is that? Was there a "point" to any of it? The truck scene is like 30 seconds. Did you have somewhere else to be?

:P lol Yeah, you have a point there. Perhaps I just watched AC too much and I was impatient for the movie to get on with it. *shrugs*

Just Midgar Edge. And it was Great Gospel.

Noted. Just - why the change? It's not a big deal at all, as none of this really is. I just get sort of irked when such changes are made after a work is published.

I realize it's Great Gospel. I really don't mind that so much, but - I agree with those iffy on the subject of Aerith becoming some goddess force. I like Aerith too, and actually think Great Gospel was a welcome addition to the movie (same with Fury Brand), like others' limit breaks.

Really, thinking about this, I'm not too sure why Aerith's healing powers being used gets to me. For one, I don't really want to see that mystery of her Cetran heritage be overshadowned by a recent elevation to the divine.

She's already special, don't kill that with making her something else.

You say you can put up with some gravity-defying feats but not too much. Well it sounds like you're backwards then. You should be fine with this one feat and not Cloud and Sephiroth fighting on falling debris followed by Cloud going from this debris to the top of the Shinra building in a single bound.

Have you never had too much of anything?

I mentioned that kidnapping crossed boundaries too. *shrugs* It's just a bit more normal than oral interaction with balls.

That's what I was driving at - which is why I asked about it - only I can't eh, whatever it away. Seriously? Omg, Aerith is in the network. This is going to spawn a whole lot of new fanfic, featuring Clerith booty calls. Urgh.

That kinda ruined that part of the movie for me - up to now, I'd just assumed Aerith had done her telepathy-thing on the kids when she'd told them where Cloud was. But a phone call?

People were wondering how Sephiroth was going to make a comeback, well, there it is. Aerith's given him ideas, and now Sephiroth's going to take over Gaia's Internet, or something.

FYI, Japan (or hell, many Eastern cultures) have always found the prospect of the dead communicating through technology an interesting subject, especially in modern horror and story telling. It's been a motif in many movies and novels...where the internet and phone acts as a gateway for spirits to communicate to the living.

So it may seem strange but its certainly not the first time its happened in a Japanese movie or anime at all.

Well of course it's not the first time, everything's been done before :monster:

Only new scenes I didn't like... well Yazoo jumping at the helicopter freaked me the fuck out... I also didn't like how Tifa was protecting Denzel so well and then as soon as Cloud showed up she was like "You're on your own, Denzel!"
Tifa :kermit:

Aerith calling everyone was weird but I've come to terms with it. I would like to know exactly what she said though. And... why doesn't anyone ever say "hello?" when they pick up the phone in the movie? Is that a Japanese thing too?

Don't know if it's a japanese thing, but it's different from country to country, and even differs within countries. In some the receiver must be the first to say hello, in others the caller must say hello first. For some it may be interchangeable :monster:

I don't see how this topic continues really. ACC is more fleshed out, music fits better, the audience cares more easily about Cloud and his family.
Yes, the pacing suffers a little bit, the sound of Sephiroth's masamune is slightly irritating, the whole thing should have been HD with no bullsh*t upscaling, but all in all it is a better movie for both fans and the uninitiated.
