Fishing in the Remake

I know this won’t be a thing until part 2, but I’ve been thinking about how much I love fishing mini-games in both FF14 and FF15. I think it’s because they put so much love into these landscapes and I normally just find myself blasting through them, but fishing gives me a chance to truly appreciate the environment and even the day night cycles.

I’m a level 12 fisherwoman in FFXIV and agree wholeheartedly. If you don’t like it, don’t play it! Give me a reason to watch the sunset over Kalm during the gloomy irl winters and I will never stop playing.
Yeah. I’ve been playing FFXIV for a while but never cared for the other gathering classes, so I hadn’t given fishing a chance until this past week. I’m now a lvl 27. My 4 year old daughter is also obsessed with sunrise and sunset right now so it’s been fun with her. Chilling out in Costa del Sol (the FFXIV version) and watching the day cycles while I catch fish.

I can ignore fishing, but my issue is that with fishing stuff is that they lock the fun optional scenes and certain items behind a fishy wall, and it drives the completionist in me nutso crazy.

(I mean more so, since I usually skip Fort Condor battles until the final battle.)

I have no idea what's fishing like in XIV but if SE must shoehorn in a fishing mini game in the remake, I hope it's not as aggravating as it was in XV.

Not nearly as involved as XV. Cast and reel when you get a bite. A slight change in higher levels where you can use certain catches as bait for bigger catches. Most of the challenge is in finding the fishing holes and catching all the local fish.

Well, if it's like that, then I can live with a fishing mini game. I never really had the chance to admire the scenery in XV while fishing, because it requires too much involvement from the player.

edit: sorry if I sounded too vehement about the possibility being a fishing mini game in the Remake, I just hate it when mini games have aggravating gameplay mechanics and usually, it always involves fishing.

I can definitely see it being a thing in Gold Saucer though.

Why DO so many games have fishing minigames, anyway? (Admittedly I thought XV's was one of the best I've played.)
I figure it’s just an easy minigame to incorporate. In most cases you never even see the fish so it’s just a set of probabilities. In FFXV they seemed to make it more like an encounter and probably stole some code from that aspect of the game. That and what I said about appreciating the environments.
