Force Unleashed 2

So, I downloaded and played the demo last night...

Holy fuck.

I thought I was excited before.

The opening was really intense for setting the tone of the game, and it's dealing with your escape from Kamino.
Interestingly it's NOT the same way that the big cinematic opening trailer takes place, with him improsoned and rushing to the droids, so I'm fairly sure that that may be later on in the game, or another clone all together.
After some serious mental stress, or Vader forcing you to destroy proxy droids of Rebel troopers and failing to make you destroy one of Juno, you wreck your way out of the facility.

Dual lightsaber combat is beautiful, and there's something seriously satisfying about sending stormtrooper arms and heads flying when you slash them. You start with amped up force powers compared to where they'll be at in the game (just like the last demo), and they're all redone, and look amazing. The posing is more dynamic, especially when leaping and holding a force push. Force lightning will arc to various objects in the room, much more realistically, and the lightsaber combos with it extend in front of you, (especially useful against the troopers with the staffs). I didn't ONCE have an issue targeting what I meant to which is a godsend. You also have a force sense ability that I forgot to test out that's activated by pressing Up on the D-Pad.

And then there's mind trick. It's SUCH a great edition. Most of the time when you do it, you'll hear Starkiller's furious voice in the background intimidating your targets with things like, "You're surrounded by enemies.", and they'll panic and start attacking everyone around them. My personal favorite so far was tricking a trooper, and hearing Starkiller say "You don't need to be here.", and have the trooper turn and yell to his buddies "I don't need to be here!" as he turned tail and ran away.

Combat is amped up, and miles better than the original. The pike troopers take some tactic because they WILL block your saber attacks if you don't shock or knock them down first. I seriously underestimated the Carbonite War Droid on my first encounter. I ripped off his shield, but then my force lightning didn't stun him like I expected it to, so when I rushed and leapt at him with my lightsabers, he'd managed to completely coat my body in carbonite when I was in mid-air, and I fell and shattered on the ground. Dead.

After coming back and blasting the war droid apart, I got to deal with some jetpack troopers. When I shocked them, and watched them smoke around the sky, it really hit me how pretty the game is. Seeing the water glistening on my character model, and all the details around were absolutely gorgeous. From there I got to deal with some TIE Fighters and use Force Fury on a couple AT-STs, but I'll leave that to you to try out. At the very least, when you're in the AT-ST area, when the stormtroopers come in, charge up a force repulse full power, and you'll unleash a blast that'll disintegrate the troopers on contact.

As if that's not enough, there's two super quick cinematic teasers that will be making their way to your televisions soon below of Starkiller & Vader.

Played the demo this morning, lightsaber combat is definitely more fun. I think the controls felt a bit better than Unleashed 1, too.

Loved the demo, also feel like the force push and grab moves are alot better refined.
I like the concept of grabbing someone charging them up with lightning then using them as a bomb lol.
As for the combat it seems alot better and has a nice level of involvement that doesnt just revolve around tapping x for long periods of time.

Lock on was actually there in the first game. :awesomonster:
I wish you could tap it to lock on, and then tap it again to unlock, rather than having to hold it down while doing everything.

Force sense is just a "which way do I need to be going" indicator.

At the end of the level, using Mind Trick with Force Fury active is HILARIOUS, because all the Stormtroopers just turn on each other en masse.

That being said, have any of you found a particularly good tactic for the Carbonite War Droids, (aside from not jumping at them)? I always feel like I'm just circling them and tapping them until the QTE prompt shows up. Force pushing their gun arm away works for a second, but they recover pretty quickly, and I usually get frozen before getting close enough to lightsaber them. Shocking them doesn't keep them stunned for long. I haven't tried chucking my lightsabers at them, or throwing boxes at them, yet. I'm assuming that I could block their long distance Carbonite shots by force gripping a box and plutting it in the path, and then hurl it at them, but I'm not sure how damage effective that would be. Dashing around them tossing lightsabers seems like it could be a viable option though.

Those things shoot carbonite grenades or something, which you can toss right back at them. Freezes the droid for a few seconds.

:O Nowai!

Can you just reflect them with Force Push, or do you have to use Force Grip and toss them back?

...I'm sorry. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and not on the up and up of current Star Wars lore but...

When the fuck did Jedi start doing power ups, that vaporized everyone in the surrounding areas, as if they were Super Saiyans...?

I caught one with Force Grip, although it was really coincidental. That's how I found out. :P

They're SO much easier to deal with now. Thanks! :D

Force Repulse at it's maximum, crackling with Force Lightning.

Also, the Force is shown to do a lot of crazy stuff in the EXU. I'm waiting on the story in this to explain some of why his force powers are as high as they are, but I think it has to do with using him as a prototype to the Emperor's Cloning facility.

Sam is absolutely awesome, and this interview gives me a lot of confidence about the story of this game, especially the performances that I was already quite excited by from the demo. Thanks for sharing Tets! :D

So... to anyone who hasn't tried this yet.

The dash/push combo still exists with the little wall of force in front of you to crash into groups and break them up.

The dash/lightning combo however.... is now a ball of lightning that shoots in front of you and goes really far.... It's effective, but it seems.... odd....

Have you watched the other videos too?

Also, I like how the menu in TFU2 doesn't have loading times.
I mean, seriously. What the hell was up with that in part 1?

I haven't.

I watched a little of that one, but I'll watch it after. If I watch making of, it sticks in my head, and kills my immersion when I play / watch the cinematics sometimes.

Oh yeah - the Menus are SO much better. I can't believe I didn't mention that.

Seriously.
It's like they stopped making the game halfway through level 2 (of 5, which is really 4), in both design and story. And the main two cinematic trailers AND the two new ones- not in the game. I'm not even really sure what I just played.

Am SO disappoint.

If you choose to count Dagobah, which is you walking from the ship to the cave for 2 mins with holocrons and nothing interactive to see a cinematic. If that doesn't count, there's 4 levels. Kamino Escape (the demo, plus some), Cato Neimoidia- actually pretty cool, Dagobah, the Salvation, and inside Kamino. End.

And the lightside/darkside choice is literally at very end, Press L1 for Dark Side, Press R1 for Light Side. Suffice to say I was too fed up to consider replaying the final level and its super monotonous platforming maze, so I looked it up on YouTube.

The general consensus is that this game is piss poor.

X, what can you shed on the story now, taking into account everything on the first post?

That is sad. You know, I enjoyed FU1 in spite of the mediocre graphics, craptacular voice acting, and the biggest piece of shit love subplot ever. And the scene with his ghost dad, WTF that was the least touching reunion ever. I was really looking forward to a major facelift for this one. The warning is much appreciated.

@ Gin:

Even with all that- basically nothing. The clone mystery is really just talked about vaguely at best, and it's only really brought up in the Dark Side Ending. Mostly it's just Starkiller yelling at Vader at the end. The only reason I can even assume his clone number is from the info there. Some stormtroopers behind a door in the first level talk about 1131 being like a copy of a copy of a copy, and that's the most info the game offers.

Also- I'm pretty sure Kota was BLIND before, now he spends the entire game yelling at you and telling you what to attack every 5 seconds.

So the endings:
Light Side: you capture Vader and take him captive for the Rebel Alliance after he tosses Juno. PROXY says she can't be revived and then she sits up and kisses you. The end. What the fuck. That's what I got last night.

Dark Side: (I only watched a cam video on YouTube on my phone) before you chop Vader's head off, a clone loyal to Vader comes up and kills you, and everyone else. Juno stays dead. The end.

This game is getting some awesomely bad reviews.

60 bucks for 4 hours of terrible combat and level design? LOL.
