Fumito Ueda Wants To See ICO and Shadow of the Colossus on PS3

As part of an interview at this year's Tokyo Game Show, Team ICO leader Fumito Ueda took time to answer a few questions provided by the 1UP community, and the most popular of these was whether we might see his games ICO and Shadow of the Colossus released on PlayStation 3 in a combo pack similar to Sony's upcoming God of War Collection. When asked, Ueda said he's all for the idea, and that he'd like to play the games on PS3 (as well as on PSP). "Initially, I didn't want to consider that," he pointed out. "I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I've been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."
Ultimately, however, it seems that a re-release would need support from Sony executives. Presumably the same ones that decided to release the God of War Collection after hearing a lot of support for the idea from fans online, so if you want to see ICO and Shadow of the Colossus in HD, now would be the time to start talking up the idea.

Shadow of the Colossus had annoying framerate issues. Fix those on the PS3 and the game will be near if not completely flawless.

This is the only game I've wanted to see in a collection since the God of War collection was announced. I hope it happens, because it's going to be one of the most epic things ever .

The only reason the GOW collection got greenlit was fans made a huge fuss about it, so that's all we need to do in this situation.

Oh I'll definitely agree that they're both cult classics. But looking at sales figures, they didn't quite hit that much mainstream success. Maybe Shadow, but not ICO.

That's because they're not big mainstream games. They always sell better throughout the year thanks to word of mouth.

They just don't sell as fast your Halos or Metal gears.

Clearly you forgot about the Colossus in shadow . But yeah, I'm just worried that there might not be enough support behind it as there was for the God of War collection.

It would make a lot of sense if they did this, especially if they did it kind of as preparation to the release of The Last Guardian; I mean, I know it's not really the same thing, but didn't ICO get a reprint in Europe before SotC's release? Plus, even beyond SotC's framerate issues, there's also the fact that ICO isn't all that easy to find nowadays.

I've never played Ico and would like to, and a framerate solid SotC would be freaking sweet, they might have to change the ways to kill the colossi to make it worth replaying though. Or maybe they could just throw in some extra ones.

The problem with ICO is that they didn't market it nearly as much as they should've - they pulled it out of production right before it slowly started to become a cult classic. SotC sold 140.000 times in its first week in Japan only - which is comparatively low compared to, say, Halo, but it's a lot, and I'm sure it's sold well over a million by now - and will sell big again if re-released, simply because it too has become a cult hit.
