Gametrailers shuts down for good

I think Splintered meant YouTube has and will continue to dominate all video-centric gaming content (as in we're now living IN a YouTube world), which I agree with.
Yeah I meant this. I didn't mean to say that specialization was bad or youtube was the devil. But it definitely changed how the game was played. I kinda liken it to how social networking changed how fandoms congregate. Forums use to be the best way for fandoms to work, then tumblr and facebook came along. The thing is, forums aren't gone, and tumblr/facebook is great for things, but certain formulas don't work anymore, not at their numbers.

I'm sad that things are different because good sites like gametrailers gets downed in the crossfires, but it's just the way things work now. Some things are better, some things are worse. I definitely appreciate being able to pick up any reviewer I trust on certain subjects, then jump ship to another for a different genre. Lord knows I do not want to rely on just IGN or Kotaku or something.

My hope is that that they go the Adam Sessler route, when XPlay dropped he went to youtube as well. I want to hear the gametrailer guy continue to do reviews, I'm conditioned to love his voice.
I actually had a little bit of a problem with GT over the last couple of years because they never had anything good to say about Playstation or Square-Enix even when they were doing things right, but this was almost completely forgiven with their FFVII remake reaction, and when I remembered the hours I'd spend on their site just letting videos run.
To be fair, everyone shits on Squeenix, they're the easy target. It has me a bit bitter because I'm one of the heathens that loved the XIII trilogy and I get annoyed and frustrated with the constant backhanded jibes in literally every FF video I'm interested in. It's a little exhausting being in a constantly toxic fandom. But that's just me.

I'll forever love the remake reaction video, though. It's a nice reminder that even the companies have passion behind them.

Someday...

Someday I will solve the mystery of how Splintered always manages to completely and perfectly express my feelings on a subject for me.

I've written a response to these in the fandom rant thread, because that's what my response became XD.

I loved GameTrailers mostly for nostalgic reasons (tangentially it was where I first discovered the late Monty Oum's early work :monster:), but back in the day my internet speed was downright shitty and I had a very hard time watching trailers of any kind at all, especially on that site in particular.

And as someone mentioned earlier, later on when I got a better provider and my internet speeds got better, GameTrailers got weird teething issues with its streaming format or something because even at resolutions and speeds my internet could easily handle the videos I tried to watch still ran like shit. The meteoric rise of YouTube put an end for my need to go to that website at all, so I can definitely see how corporate shitwits would look at GT as unprofitable/unviable in the future as a business.

Still, as Lex mentioned earlier, they had good, original content, and it's a crying shame to see a place with such a rich history of content go down overnight with zero fanfare whatsoever.

Brandon Jones just gave an interview on that YouTube channel with the IGN castoffs (they're hosting the FFXV event for SE even though Colin Moriarty is in it and he despises present day FF and is in general a supernova of negativity, but anyway tangent):

The FF retrospective took him a year to make 0_0

I didn't even know about the shut down until I saw this. absolutely sucks.

I guess the above means they at least found/finding something else to do right?

I definitely understand why the retrospectives were such a commitment, when they were so well done.
It is sad that doing reviews would be such a "stretch goal," though. I get it, but while I know people love the new shows and streams from the latest crew, I never saw those. What I miss most of GT is hearing him voice reviews :monster:

That said, such a kickstarter might get way more money than he's anticipating.

They did it so fast to, which is awesome.

They are nearing their 30k goal, which means in the course of a day they would've hit all but 1 of their goals.

If this many people are supporting them, I wonder who the jackass was that decided to fire them.
