I just never got why Obi-wan just stopped fighting and let Vader kill him.

So he would become more powerful than Vader could ever imagine.

And where Obi-wan stops the generator and slips past the stormtroopers. Once again the empire is incredibly stupid and the heroes only make progress because of this fact. Dudes, just fucking turn around!

Iiirc, he used the force to divert their attention away from him.

And since you bring it up, that Jedi mind trick scene. Cool and all, but there were three stormtroopers there and Obi-wan was speaking aloud. Do the other two not find it odd that the third guy is repeating what Obi-wan is saying as the guy makes weird hand gestures? They're on the lookout for suspicious people after all.

I figured he'd mindtricked all of them. I don't imagine stormtroopers have that much force of will themselves, either that, or they're not being paid enough to give a shit

Not all Stormtroopers of the original trilogy are clones.

The Grand Army of the Republic, the clone army of the prequels, were made into the Stormtroopers with the rise of the Galactice Empire but over time, more troopers that weren't clones were enlisted. And due to a bunch of unseen events, by the time of "A New Hope" the clones are in the minority.

According to canon, that is - they're still the archetypical mooks insofar as the viewer is concerned, .
