The acquisition falling through and Twitch needing to cut down costs fast sounds viable - having tons of old videos around costs them a small fortune in storage, I'm sure, and deleting everything >60 days old will have a neat impact on that. Still, storage is probably cheaper than the bandwidth they're using. IDK.

Yeah its pretty peculiar.

The thing that really sticks out for me is ; If Google did buy out Twitch why would they be completely fine with thousands of sub 10 view videos being up for years on YT but not for vods on Twitch?

On the other hand one perspective is that they're deleting a ton of stuff so that its easier for the AudibleMagic sweeper to make it's way through the Twitch archives if there is significantly less stuff there lol.

Anyway the whole damn thing still sucks. No matter who owns twitch right now, they royally fucked up.

There is an option to automatically upload Twitch videos to YouTube so maybe it's to encourage users to use that feature? I mean it's always been there so... idk I'm pulling this shit from nowhere but I mean the option is there if people want to keep their videos.

^ They've said they won't get rid of highlighted videos (/c/), only past broadcasts (/b/). To upload to YouTube, you need to have made a highlight first. Highlights have length limits etc.

Twitch removed the 'Save forever' option, muted 30 minutes of my video and put this on it:
If you believe that your audio content was improperly muted on Twitch due to our implementation of Audio Recognition, then please use the "Appeal" button to e-mail us at [email protected] and tell us why. We will review your appeal and attempt to unmute your content. Please note, however, that all uploaded content is still subject to our Terms of Service and you are solely responsible for clearing all content that you upload to Twitch.
Twitch originated as THE GAMING PART OF JUSTIN.TV

NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME I'VE VIOLATED THE 'TERMS OF SERVICE'

FUCK

YOU

Videos ("highlights" are safe) will be deleted on August 26th. How to make sure you don't lose your material (do either):

1) Make "highlights" of them
2) Download the flash files with Chrome Extensions such as 'Video Downloader professional'

I'm doing the latter now, but the problem is that the extension seems to have problems locating all the flash files for the videos. The way Twitch works, is it saves one flash file for every 30 minutes, so if your video is just under two hours, there will be four of them. I've had the extension mark a video of that length as one file as 600+ MB (one flash file is usually around 220 MB), and I've had them pop up as four - but two of these files only downloaded audio.

So I fear that the only reason to make sure I get all flash files downloaded correctly is to click on the video every x minutes and let it work long enough to have downloaded/ recognized enough of the footage, so I know the extension has located all flash files correctly.

This will take forever. :( BUT I did find some cool stuff looking through the videos. I didn't know I had my entire Yiazmat and Omega Mark XII fights on there :joy:

This makes me wonder if a deal could be worked out so that Streamers have access to the Amazon Prime licenses for the Music services. Obviously this would probably only extended to partnered streamers but it could be a step forward in regards to offering entertaining legal music as a background.

On the flipside.. As a viewer im afraid of the idea of possibly having to subscribe to Amazon prime just to get stuff i used to get for free.

I think I might just let them delete all my videos. I honestly don't think I've got the patience to comb through them all to download the shit that might be worth keeping.

^ I couldn't be arsed with the extension, so I ended up Highlighting about half of them in their full length. Worked all right enough.

Soooo I've been on Twitch for what, 10 years? I was on when it wasn't even called Twitch, but justin.tv.

As a fuck you from Amazon I've most likely been selected for a shit experiment they're probably doing.

Thanks, assholes.

(And no, outside of the auth verification SMS service I'm not giving you my phone number. Fuck off.)
