Guard Scorpion Dialogue Variations

The dialogue changes depending on who in the party is alive. Video uploaded by Marinecorps1812, so no, this discovery was not made by me.

Spoiler: Dialogue Variations

If both Cloud & Barret are "alive":
Cloud "Barret, be careful!"
"Attack while it's tail's up!
It's gonna counterattack with its laser."

If Barret is "dead":
Cloud "It's gonna fire that laser..."
"Attack while it's tail's up!
It's gonna counterattack with its laser."

If Cloud is KOed:
Barret "I dunno what's goin' on, but...
it looks pretty bad.
Let's see what it does when it's tail's up..."

If one variation has already been triggered, neither that nor any other line will be triggered the Guard Scorpion raises its tail.

"Attack while it's tail's up!" is the biggest trolling in video game history. Even Barret's "Let's see what it does..." is pretty misleading.

I never knew about this either. Like 99% of players, I expect, I've never had a character die at that stage of the game. Thanks for posting it.

Wow. Who would have guessed.

But the best part of this is that with three variations on the line, they still managed to fuck up letting English players know to leave the thing the hell alone when "it's" tail's up.

Really, these two in-battle scenarios are even more unlikely than the scenario that follows from losing against the Snow Woman in the Great Glacier.

At least in that fight there is the off-chance that after she inflicts Confuse on one of your party members, that character will cause horrible self-inflicted damage to your entire party thus resulting in a loss.

Very few people know that you don't actually get a Game Over after losing that fight though. Instead you get back to the field, see your party leader collapse, then the woman says
“Hah, just remember your place!”
then you wake up in Holzoff's cabin.

Return to the cave, talk to the woman and she will say
“Still don't get it, eh?”

They aren't trying to warn us. They want to trick us into attacking while its tail is up. Barret's line proves it, just like Flint said.
I got killed by that goddamn thing the first time I played because, yes, I did indeed attack while its tail was up. And I hadn't saved either. Call it a noob's painful lesson.

I feel like they we're trying to go for some sort of casual speech, but it doesn't translate to the written word.

Its kind of a testament to the game that it still managed to get good reviews despite such a massive error so early on. What I can't fathom is that it wasn't picked up on during playtesting

Which surprises me, because it is based on the English translation and is all in all much worse.

I mean...I fell for it like everyone else but the tail laser still didn't kill me...I just used a potion on each of them after. And both of them had limit breaks then.
