Too bad I haven't played Sim City. It would have been nice.
But I grew up with Sims. And that were good old times playing that game..It feels like Sims 2 and 3 have ruined it. It's not like it used to be. I don't have the same feeling about the new ones. Well, they are still pretty amazing games, but still...
Mm I see what you mean there. The Sims had this charm about it--it was so simple--the concept. You managed your Sims' moods, made them all green, tried to keep them there, and get them promoted to the next level of their job. There were no additions then. You didn't have to worry about Wants & Fears and how it could change constantly when they woke up, or getting a special tonic so that your Sims would stop aging (or just constantly turning the aging 'on' and 'off' when it was necessary). There was no need to worry about kids' grades or managing their skills from when they were toddlers. Days didn't pass by like how they did in real life.
The Sims was real and yet not totally so. The Sims 2 added realism but added in weird material in order to compensate like vampires and plant people (really wtf?). So both of the installments have their weak points and their strong points. I just feel that the Sims 1 is more realistic in a lot of ways.

I don't get it either. The "playing God" aspect of it gets old after awhile. And while I love making customized characters and shit, it can only be so much fun making a person, live a mundane existent, when you have your own mundane existent to live
Some of the quirky, unusual and fun stuff they add to make the game appealing and "different" is good, but that too gets old. Making yourself or a roommate a zombie or Frankenstein monster is fun but yeah...what do you do next?
At least with Sim City, there was a mental/puzzle aspect to playing god and ruling a city. How do you keep everyone happy? How do you promote growth? How do you balance the budget and collect taxes fairly? There's so much mental strategy and planning that it never gets old. But the Sims doesn't really offer that.

Mm it appeals to our girly side honestly: building homes, furnishing them, destroying lives, or having the choice to play the rules by the book. It's that sense of freedom over a whole family that's appealing but it's the repetition of what you have to do to achieve this that can easily bore someone.

I'd say the Sims appeal comes from what Mako said, that God Complex shite.
Personally, I don't like managing shit, unless it's in a war game and it leads to satisfactory siege results. Looking after a Sefiros avatar's potty times doesn't factor into a fun experience for me.

Not everybody's going to find the game appealing. It's kind of how I'm sort of against playing survivalist games like Resident Evil or whatever. I just find something that I can manipulate to a greater extent to be more appealing. Plus killing zombies and stuff isn't really all that fun to me, tbh.

Silent Hill's first four installments are a hundred times better than all of the Resident Evil series. At least in terms of difficulty and fear induction.
RE 1 and 2 are the only ones that have an ounce of fear. And that's fear induced by how sickeningly bad the voice acting is. Resident Evil's gamecube remake is actually scary. RE4 is an awesome game. But I don't think RE has ever been truly scary. It has some cheap thrills and jump inducing movements..and you're kept tense trying to survive the horrors of the game, but its never actually terrifying and disturbing. It's just like a B movie, that's all.

The only thing that scared me was a Barry Burton talking about "Jill Sandwich."
SH's main plot ended with 3 for me, to be honest. All the others past it are kinda like unrelated gaidens.
